Foundation (Prep)

Welcome to Term 3!

It is great to be back! The students have all returned to school refreshed and I feel like everyone is a little bit taller. We have lots to look forward to this term, including Athletics Day, Book Week, our first excursion, a swimming program and Footy Day.

English

This term, students will be developing confidence with writing sentences. The children will be supported while they practise and then gently encouraged to have a go at writing independently as they are ready. We had a class discussion about our school holidays so students had their ideas in the forefront of their minds, and then everyone attempted writing their thoughts. I was impressed with everyone's efforts!

We have introduced the /w/ sound and practised reading and writing words beginning with /w/. The class enjoyed the story of Winnie the Witch and then had fun creating the main character of the story, Winnie.

We have also started to learn some digraphs, which are two letters that make one sound, e.g ll, ss, ff and sh.

Maths

In the first week back, Prep C revisited the concept and language of Part-Part-Whole. We focused on breaking whole numbers into parts and explaining the process using the correct language.

During Week 2 we moved onto a Measurement unit which has revised some of the topics we introduced in first semester. Students had the opportunity to compare the weight of objects. We also discussed a range of scenarios and compared the duration of time it would take to complete the activities, e.g. brushing your teeth vs taking a bath or crossing the road vs driving to school. The students also had fun comparing the capacity of a variety of different sized and shaped containers in the sandpit.

100 Days of School

On Wednesday, 30th July, Prep C celebrated 100 Days of School. This special milestone was an opportunity for students to pause and celebrate all they have learnt so far this year. After 100 days, students have learnt many letters and sounds, started reading and writing and extended their knowledge of numbers. They have also made new friends and have learnt to adapt to a busy schedule in their new school routine. We are all very proud of what the children have achieved and look forward to the next 100. Please enjoy some photos taken on the day.

Have a great weekend!
