Spanish

¡Hola a todas las familias!

After a fantastic Term 2, I’m excited to be starting Term 3 and to continue exploring the Spanish language with all of our students!

Below is a quick overview of what we’ll be covering in Spanish this term across the different year levels:

PREPS

We’re starting to work on animals, beginning with farm animals. We’ll also continue reviewing some of the basics we’ve covered throughout the year, like colours, numbers, and basic greetings. Every day, we begin our class by practising ¿Cómo estás? (How are you?), and the children are getting more confident expressing how they feel. Mid-term, we’ll start working on ¿Qué hay en mi mochila? (What’s in my bag?), learning all the vocabulary related to school items. We’ll even make our own velcro backpack to practise with in class!

Grades 1–2

We’re diving into hobbies (pasatiempos in Spanish), focusing especially on each student’s favourite ones. Towards the end of the term, we’ll be working on a project where students will showcase what they’ve learned. Our sessions will continue to be active and engaging, with a mix of activities and games. We’ll keep reinforcing our routine and a calm, positive, and motivated attitude towards learning a new language.

Grades 3–4

This term we’ve started exploring the world of Spanish painting art, looking at different artistic techniques from Spanish-speaking countries. Alongside essential vocabulary, we’ll try out some of these techniques ourselves and create an art project, with a special focus on Chile, which is the country we’ll celebrate during our Spanish Fiesta this year!

Grades 5–6

We began the term working on hobbies, especially those each student enjoys individually, and we’ll now start connecting them with different places in a city. Our main focus this term will be around city-related vocabulary, and our project will involve creating a group model of a Spanish-speaking city.

This year’s Spanish Fiesta will be all about Chile, and we’ll share the official date very soon!

I’m really excited to explore all these topics with the students this term and will also provide students with some resources they can use at home to keep practising and enjoying this beautiful new language!

¡Feliz trimestre!
