Welcome back to term 3. Term 3 is only 9 weeks and it is packed with lots of exciting learning activities. Grades Prep to 4 have their swimming program starting in week 6. This year we have scheduled 2 sessions per week across 4 weeks, in response to feedback that 2 weeks of daily lessons was tiring for the students. It also reduces students missing a large number of lessons if they are unwell.
Other activities planned for this term are Grade 4/5/6 excursion, Prep/1 dinner, Parent Teacher conversations, Fathers Day breakfast, school disco, grandparents day and more. Please keep an eye on the school calendar and compass notifications.
Student Attitude to School Survey:
Each year students in Grades 4 to 6 complete a survey providing feedback on their experiences at school. This year our results were very positive with improvements in all areas and showing particular strengths in the following areas:
Effective teaching time, stimulated learning, advocate at school, sense of inclusion, and high expectations for success.
Areas which indicated significant improvement were:
Effective classroom behaviour, motivation and interest, managing bullying, respect for diversity and student voice and agency.
Addressing Racism:
Last term I included a piece in the newsletter regarding 'addressing racism'. This term we have already addressed incidences with students using racist language in regards to skin colour and offensive language. Often young children are repeating what they have heard online eg; Tik Tok or from older siblings and repeat this language without an awareness of the meaning. It's important that we model the behaviour we want to see and address inappropriate language as a community. We appreciate your support in addressing this issue.
Playground repaired:
Our students were super excited to return from holidays to see that the rainbow slide playground is back in use and it has been well used all week.
