Straight back into learning…
What a wonderful start to Term 3 it’s been! Our students have returned with enthusiasm and energy, ready to dive straight back into their learning routines. It’s been fantastic to see their focus, curiosity, and love for learning shine through across all areas of the curriculum.
Phonics Workshop
We’ve jumped right back into our phonics rotations, revisiting familiar sounds and exploring new ones. Students are continuing to build the essential skills for reading and writing, such as segmenting and blending sounds, identifying tricky words, and applying phonics knowledge to both reading books and writing sentences. These sessions lay the foundation for confident, independent literacy.
Reading & Writing Workshop
This week, we explored the entertaining and imaginative picture storybook Stuck by Oliver Jeffers. This text sparked lots of laughs and thoughtful discussion as we unpacked the sequence of events and the silly, escalating problem faced by the main character.
Students worked on:
It’s been a joy to see the students engage so deeply with the story while practising important reading and writing strategies.
Maths Workshop
This week in Maths, we’ve begun exploring the concept of multiplication through hands-on experiences with grouping and arrays. Rather than jumping straight into times tables, we’re focusing on building a strong understanding of what multiplication really means.
Social and Emotional Learning "How can we be a good friend?"
This week, we’ve been learning all about what it means to be a good friend. As part of our Social and Emotional Learning, we watched Tamir on the Street #3 – How to Be a Good Friend from Sesame Street. The video sparked some thoughtful and meaningful conversations in the classroom.
Tamir and his friends helped us understand that being a good friend is more than just playing together. It’s also about being kind, listening, sharing, and standing up for one another. These messages really resonated with the students and gave us some great ideas for how we can look out for each other at school.
