From the Office

From our Acting Principal

Welcome back to everyone for the new term! We hope all families has a restful break and look forward to another busy term of learning at Raywood PS.

Reading At Home

This term we will be having an extra focus on reading at home each day and supporting students to create regular home reading routines. All of our students bring home ‘Take Home Books’ ranging from early years readers through to challenging novels for our older students and these are supplemented with non-fiction information type books and books students borrow from the MARC Van when Mrs. G visits us. Research shows us that our kids reading regularly at home has a direct impact on their achievement across the learning curriculum, regardless of student family background or other factors in the home environment. Interestingly, kids being regularly read to at home has just as much impact on their reading as them practicing the reading themselves! We look forward to focusing on this important aspect of learning together this term.

Preferred Staff Communication

A reminder that at Raywood PS the preferred method of contact for teachers at school is either by email, calling the school or using the school’s Mobile Phone 0408272059. Families are more than welcome to text the school mobile if it’s a short message (e.g. bus message or absence note) as this is checked multiple times a day and before home time each afternoon. Please refrain from using staff personal mobile numbers if possible, we know this has been normal in the past, however as we now have the school mobile up and going we are trying to work towards using this for these short messages please – thank you for the support. If you need to catch up with your child’s teacher for a longer conversation, please confirm with them a time that suits and pop on in.

International Day of Friendship

Tomorrow we will be celebrating International Day of Friendship at Raywood PS with a Picnic Lunch. Students will work together to make their Fancy Sandwich of choice and then enjoy a picnic lunch along the themes of the day. No need to bring lunch on Wednesday, just fruit and snacks.

Scienceworks Excursion

In a few weeks time, on Tuesday the 12th of August we will be travelling to Scienceworks in Melbourne for a whole-school excursion. Our excursions happens to be in Science Week and we are looking forward to supporting our inquiry learning at school this term by exploring the exhibits on offer at Scienceworks and participating in workshop sessions in the Planetarium, Lightning Theatre and classroom spaces. The cost for this excursion will be $50 per student which will go towards bus costs and Scienceworks entry. The remaining costs will be subsidised by the school. Please let Bree know if you would like to utilise part of your child’s School Saving Bonus funds or CSEF funds (if eligible) to cover this excursion and complete the permission form on UEducateUs.

Bendigo Writer’s Festival Excursion

On Friday the 15th of August we are excited to be heading into Bendigo for a whole-school excursion to attend the School’s Day of the Bendigo Writer’s Festival. Students will join in sessions with students from other local schools and hear from author’s and illustrators of books they enjoy reading. More information will be available shortly along with the permissions form on UEducateUs.

Raywood PS Values Award

This term we have begun to award a Raywood PS Values Award at the end of each week. At Raywood PS, our school values are Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. These values were chosen by students and our school community back in 2022 and are still a nice fit for the focus of our school.

Last Week our recipient was Avery. Congratulations!

That's all for this week- James Sait

News from Bree in the office

Jackets from State School Relief

The jackets we were able to secure through grants from the State School Relief program have been sent home today.

We’ve noticed a growing number of unnamed jumpers at school, so this is a friendly reminder to please label all uniform items — including the new jackets — with your child’s name.

If you have any questions or concerns about the jackets, please don’t hesitate to contact Bree.
