What a great time we had on our excursion yesterday!

As part of our Design Technology curriculum we have been learning about food factories and processes. It was fascinating to see how chocolate starts as a cacao bean, is extracted from the pod, fermented, roasted and blended into the chocolate we know!

We loved seeing the machines used and got to watch some handmade chocolates being made. A highlight was getting to make our own chocolate in the machine at the end.

A huge thank you to our ES and parent volunteers!

We have continued our biography style writing genre this week, by researching a person of importance. We've practised researching and paraphrasing, and have enjoyed learning a lot about a range of impressive people. We have been using the TEEL structure to strengthen our paragraphs, and have completed some great biographies.

In Maths we have continued investigating probability, decimals and unknown numbers. We learned a few knew words such as 'theoretical probability' and 'experimental probability'. We have completed some chance experiments and recorded the expected and actual outcomes as fractions, decimals and percentages.

We have been using the inverse operation to solve for unknown numbers, and looked into number patterns and decimals.

In Reading we have focussed on setting, character, vocabulary, ethics and plot while reading Holes. This week in particular we have looked at the descriptive language used in setting, and the importance of Camp Green Lake being set in a dry and barren landscape. We have learned about flat and round characters and identified these in the story. We have interpreted a variety of phrases and what the author 'actually means' when they write these phrases.

We are also learning about ethics and fairness.
