Online engagement
There has been lots of media attention about banning children from digital spaces. While there is some merit in these discussions, the reality is that when we tell children they cannot have something, they work harder to access it.
The challenge is real for parents, and I am grateful my children grew up with minimal access to devices and online gaming.
In today’s world the online space is even more difficult to manage, luckily there are platforms set up to support parents.

This website has many resources for parents to support their child’s engagement in the online space. We encourage you to engage with this page.
We are hearing a great deal about Fortnite from children and parents.
Children are hyper-focused on the game and seem to play it morning and night.
Parents are confiding in us that they are challenged by their child’s behaviour while playing the game and are concerned about the impact it has on their social interactions.
As a support for parents, we have found a BLOG: What do I need to know about Fortnite? A guide for parents and carers. Please take some time to read this.
For your information, the eSafety commissioner gives this game an AGE RATING of 13+. We don't have many children at St Joseph’s that are 13 years old. So, if your child is playing this game, they would need your support. As a parent, it is your responsibility to understand the game and how it is played.
