Boarding News
Dear Boarding Parents and Guardians,
On behalf of Principal Simon Harvey, College Rector Fr Michael Twigg OMI, Head of Boarding Annamaria Cream and Old Boys Liaison Officer Jeremy Logan, it is with great pride that the Mazenod Old Boys Association (Inc.) would like to announce and introduce you to Zinelli House, proudly established by the Mazenod Old Boys Association.
Zinelli House is a wonderfully suitable property that has been made available to MOBA through the generosity of the Mazenod College community. The MOBWA Community House is an unsupervised, short-term rental that allows us to provide inexpensive accommodation options for Mazenod College boarding families in the hills and in very close proximity to the College and the Cebula boarding house.
We understand the significant strain placed on boarding families and we’re very proud to be able to provide accessible and affordable accommodation for boarding families by the end of Term 3 2024.
This property will mean families of boarding students can stay close to the College to support their son/s, whether for a night or a week, for an emergency or to support an event. It also means families can be together more easily when needed.
The Zinelli family name is a special one in the life of St Eugene de Mazenod and the Oblates. When St Eugene and his family had to flee for their lives from the French Revolution in 1791, it was Fr Don Bartolo and the Zinelli family in Venice who welcomed him and helped him grow in his faith and life. The Zinelli Family cared for St Eugene when he was between 12-14 years old. They gave him direction, food, companionship, faith learning, and most importantly, love. The name Zinelli provides a wonderful name for our new outreach to Boarding families. In choosing the Zinelli Family name, we call to mind their great care of the young St Eugene and we entrust this home and everyone who stays here to God’s love.
The Mazenod Old Boys Association, Mazenod College, and the Oblates of Mary Immaculate care deeply about our College and Boarding families hope that this partnership makes you feel very welcome.

Leadership is the focus this week with five of our Year 11 boys nominating for Cebula leadership in 2025. It takes a great deal of courage to put oneself in this arena and I thank Hugh, Will, Ethan, Riley and Dylan for their proactive approach to being Year 12 role models next year. This week the boys, along with nominees from the other Houses will spend a few days attending the Year 11 Leadership Camp, exploring their leadership attributes and learning more about their commitment to this vital aspect of college life.
With the winter sports season almost at its end, the next two weekends will see several boys in finals and grand finals and we wish them all the best of luck. It's been a busy season in general, with over 65% of the boarders engaged in weekend and week night sports. Others favour non-team pursuits such as taekwondo and kickboxing and have been enjoying regular weekly sessions.
The new building continues to progress each week. We are now at the stage where the roof is complete, and work is well underway on the internal aspects. It's been an exciting journey to date, and we are all looking forward to the project's completion later this year.
