Junior Soccer Report Quarter Final

The Junior Soccer Team travelled to Sam Kerr Stadium for their Quarter Final game against St Norbert’s College. As expected it was a high-pressure game with both teams moving the ball well on a large pitch. Mazenod created several opportunities while defending extremely well and eventually we were able to put enough pressure on St Norbert’s defence, forcing them into making a mistake. A s a result, team captain Lucas R, scored the first goal of the game, and we went in to the break with a 1-nil advantage. Knowing St Norbert’s would come out at halftime looking to press for an equaliser, Mazenod continued to dominate the game, having several goals ruled out from offsides. At the final whistle, we ran out well deserved 1 nil winners and progressed through to the semi-finals of the competition.

Well done to the team on an amazing team game. A big thanks to the large contingent of Mazenod parents who came to watch the game and support the team.

Senior Soccer Final

The Senior Soccer team returned to the Sam Kerr Football Centre to defend its Shield Championship. After defeating Bunbury Catholic College last week, the final was against Scotch College.

In wet conditions, the game started as a back-and-forth battle with both teams having long periods in possession and defending well. However, Mazenod eventually cracked through the Scotch defence after a Marcus M shot that was well saved landed at the feet of Zachary H who then found Nic E alone in the box to slot home the goal. Scotch pressed in the last 10 minutes of the first half but Mazenod defended well going into the half-time break 1-nil up.

In the second half, Mazenod quickly added a second goal, again through Nic E, who struck a well-timed shot into the top left of the goal. Scotch were not willing to concede the game and  answered back with a goal of their own to shift the momentum. They continued to press for a second however the Mazenod defence was strong and 10 minutes before the end of the game Nic E scored his hattrick goal, weaving his way through the Scotch tired defence, securing Mazenod a BACK-TO-BACK Shield Championship.

Well done to the team on another fantastic season, in particular Mr Devon who coached the team brilliantly this season. A big thanks to the large fan support from students/staff and families who attended the final!
