RUOK Day Staff VS Student

In an exhilarating 15th edition of the annual Staff vs. Student basketball match at Belmont High School, the students have once again triumphed, this time securing a 14-point victory over the staff. The event, which took place on September 12th, coincided with R U OK? Day, adding an important layer of mental health awareness to the celebration. Despite a strong effort from the teachers, the students proved too formidable, maintaining their undefeated streak in the much-anticipated match.

This year’s game carried extra significance as it marked Belmont High School’s integration of R U OK? Day into the tradition, highlighting the importance of mental well-being within the school community. As Health and Physical Education teacher Chad Mclauchlan, who has organized the event for the past 15 years, pointed out, the match fosters relationships and promotes a supportive environment between staff and students. The inclusion of the mental health initiative further strengthened the sense of unity, as students, staff, and alumni joined forces to encourage meaningful conversations and support for one another.

While the students celebrated their victory, the event’s true success lay in the positive atmosphere and the reinforcement of Belmont High’s values of respect, opportunity, and resilience. As the crowd cheered for both sides, it was clear that the game is not just about the competition but about fostering a cohesive and supportive school culture. Despite their defeat, the staff vowed to come back stronger next year, but for now, the students hold bragging rights once again.
