MP Healesville Excursion

On Tuesday 27 August all of MP went to Healesville Sanctuary. When we arrived, we met at the Bunjil statue and met Lisa, the Education teacher. After, we went to have a snack and then we split into our groups. Olivia’s mum, was the helper in my group. We saw lots of animals and my two favourites were the baby Tassie devils and the baby dingo pups.

We had an absolute ball at Healesville Sanctuary! Let us tell you about it… We went to the Bird Show and there was a falcon! It was so big it skimmed people on the head! When we were having lunch, Joey feel off his chair which was funny because he wasn’t really hurt. We also got to see pelicans and baby animals of various kinds and they were so cute! We had the best day!

Joash and Adelyn

The bird show was so interesting. I learnt so much! We also saw baby and adult animals and my favourite was the baby koala – it was so cute! We also learnt that invertebrate animals don’t have a spinal cord so they can’t feel pain. Healesville Sanctuary is an amazing place!

Sophie

My favourite part about Healesville Sanctuary was the Tasmanian devils. I liked their colours because they are black and white and they are my favourite colours. I also like the koala that was sitting in a tree with a baby.

Emmanuel

Healesville Sanctuary has some really cool animals like kangaroos and Tasmanian devils. There are some good looking birds like parrots and falcons. I wish we had more time to spend there. Next time I go, I want to read all of the information about all of the animals.

Jireh

At Healesville Sanctuary we saw dingoes, emus, lyrebirds, platypus, birds, tree kangaroos, koalas, a baby koala, echidnas, kangaroos, reptiles, animals of the night and many many more animals that were very cool. My favourite animal was the tree kangaroo because it was very unique with it’s different colour.

Grace

I’ve been to Healesville Sanctuary a lot, but this time was better than ever because I was with my friends. There were so many animals. It was a great day!

Our excursion to Healesville Sanctuary was amazing! We saw all kinds of different animals like koalas who were always sleeping, baby Tasmanian devils who were snuggled together and snoozing, and the birds who were beautiful. Healesville Sanctuary is a great opportunity to learn about the diversity of plants and animals in Australia.

We are so proud of the way our Middle Primary students represented our school throughout our excursion. They were respectful and considerate of members of the public as we explored the Sanctuary, they asked curious questions, and they participated in deep conversations. As we were leaving the Sanctuary, the staff shared with us how impressed they were with the knowledge and behaviour of our MECS students.

The Mayor visits The Froggies

The mayor of the Melba Ward of Yarra Ranges, Sophie Todorov, came and visited the Prep Froggies class. This was because April had written and decorated a beautiful card that she had sent to the mayor. The children loved asking questions to the mayor, including what she was doing about the Mount Evelyn Maccas, and loved learning of some projects that were starting to happen in the Yarra Ranges.

Prep visit Myuna Farm

The Preps were thankful for beautiful weather to enjoy Myuna farm. Thank you to the wonderful parent helpers who helped us out at the excursion. Read the amazing writing from some of the Prep students below. They had so many ideas and loved their day at Myuna Farm.

Wow! Those rabbits are so cute. At the farm we got to see lots of animals. My favourite was the rabbits. I liked patting them. I also liked the guinea pigs, they were very fast. One of my other favourites was the baby goats. They were so fluffy and cute. One even nibbled my hair.

Jemima

On Friday we went to Myuna Farm. A kangaroo is jumping. I sat next to Mrs Holliday on the bus. I fell asleep on the bus ride back. Have you been to Myuna Farm? Oh no! A yak is going to charge at me. Wow, that camel is so tall. Aaaah! We were eating some lunch and hens broke out of the cage. I liked the tractor ride. We went on the tractor and then we saw bats.

Lennox

Moo! Oink! Quack! We went to Myuna Farm. Camels are giant. 9 month old pigs are giant too. Splash, splash, splash, splash! The train ride was fun and we went through the water.

Hugo

What is that? When I turned around I saw a baby goat nibbling my hair! I was feeling scared at first but when it started I loved it! What!? How did Alice the camel try to eat my hand? Look at the big pig, but the pig is only 9 months old.

Aubree

That is not food! A baby goat was nibbling my hair. On Friday we went to the farm. Yay! A turtle! It’s neck is so long. Coosh! Coosh! We tried to get the camel to sit down. I milked a goat.
