On Friday 30 August we had Kylie and Jon visit MECS from the amazing missionary organisation called MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship). MAF exists to share the gospel to the most remote places in the world. Many of these places are only accessible via aircraft. They believe the cost and effort is worth seeing even a few come into a saving relationship with Jesus. MAF is also passionate about leadership and runs fantastic leadership sessions for school leaders. Our Faith Leadership Team and Student Representative Counsel, were equipped and empowered in the areas of: creating a vision, growth mindset, servant leadership and working to your strengths. Here is a reflection from Joel K, one of our leaders in the Junior Secondary School:
Today we learnt about the work of MAF, an organization that helps people in remote places to get help and to hear about the gospel. They taught us helpful skills such as communication, vision, and servant leadership. We were put into table groups, using our character strengths to help the team succeed, doing creative challenges, quizzes, and kahoots. The part that I enjoyed the most was a team challenge where we had to create a bridge out of dry spaghetti and marshmallows, because it was cool to see the inventive ideas that the other groups had used.

How Year 12 buddies benefit from Prep buddies
by Hadassah H, Year 12 SRC Leader
Having a Prep buddy as a Year 12 gives us the opportunity to set an example for our impressionable buddies and shows them what it is to be kind to others and to be considerate of the people around us. Not only can we be an example but we can also learn from our buddies. We can just stop and spend some time being like a Prep again, crawling through the playground, making sandcastles and even playing make-belief. It gives the Year 12s an opportunity to let loose and just have fun which we can find, in this busy year for us, is a hard thing to do. As Year 12s it is important for us to reflect on how we felt as a Prep starting school, looking at the Year 12s and thinking "how grown up?" and looking up to them as leaders. This can remind us of how far we have come from starting school to now finishing school and how proud we can be of ourselves by spending time with our buddies.
How Prep buddies benefit from Year 12 buddies.
by Lily S, Year 12 SRC Leader
I can't speak on behalf of all the Prep buddies but I do think that they enjoy the time they experience playing with the older kids. It's almost like a big brother or sister to play with them and guide them into doing the right thing. It's encouraging to show the buddies that they have someone else they can play with and go to, who can fill the space for them if it is needed. It is also a good opportunity for children to expand their social skills and encourage them to associate with a range of different people to expand their social health and wellbeing. I know that my buddy and I have so much fun together, so I think that it is great that we all get to make new friends.
