This semester, Senior Music students have been studying music composed for film, video games and theatre for Unit 4. For their final internal assessment, students were tasked with exploring the expressive powers of music through composing or performing music that conveyed a narrative. Gian Netzler (Year 12) was inspired by the acclaimed Studio Ghibli film Spirited Away and composed his own original music to accompany a poignant scene from the film.
We had the privilege of being able to bring this composition to life by doing a live recording in the Hive Studio, facilitated by Mr Enrico Le Mura and the college’s Audio Club. This video shows the boys working together on this exciting project while also providing an insight into Gian’s inspiration from Spirited Away. Gian (piano) can be seen recording his work titled Kisha along with the Blue and Gold String Quartet (Jesse Pattel-Brown, Sam Wilcox, Arran Abraham and Oliver Betts).
Jasper Moeller in Year 6 who received Highly Commended in the Year 5 and 6 section and Kila De Busch (Year 9), who was awarded Highly Commended in the First Nations section of the Independent Education Union Awards for Excellence in Art and Design, were presented with their prizes at an awards ceremony at the Queensland Multicultural Centre, Kangaroo Point last week. Congratulations to Jasper and Kila.
“Incubator” provides senior students and young artists the experience of exhibiting their artwork in a public art space. Students studying senior visual art and first-year tertiary arts courses from Brisbane and the Moreton Bay Region are invited to submit their work for display in an annual exhibition. We congratulate Year 12 students, Tyrell Wolmby, Ashley Kani, Phillip-John Catalano, Sam Ferraro and Harvey Madden whose work was judged by a panel and selected for inclusion in this year’s exhibition. The work will be on display at Substation Gallery (150 Enoggera Terrace, Paddington) from Thursday 28 September until Thursday 5 October.
