Primary School News

Mr Michael Connolly, Head of Primary School

Dear Primary Parents,

As we come to the end of Term 3, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the many successes we've shared and the growth we’ve seen in both our students and school community. This term has been filled with achievements, whether in academics, sports, or the arts. Our students have shown tremendous effort, creativity, and resilience, and we are incredibly proud of each and every one of them here in the Primary School.

This term, we had the privilege of celebrating some wonderful events, including NAIDOC Week, where we honoured the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We also enjoyed the magic of Book Week where we celebrated the love of books and reading, as well as getting creative for our character dress-up parade. Another highlight was the College Walkathon, where students demonstrated both their endurance and their dedication to raising funds for this special event. The Years 5 and 6 Dance, as well as the EKKA break, were very popular with the boys. Finally, the Father’s Day Breakfast was a heartwarming occasion where we celebrated the special role of fathers and father figures in our community.

As we look ahead to Term 4, I encourage all students to take the time to set new goals. Whether these goals are about improving in a specific subject, trying out a new skill, or building stronger friendships, setting a clear vision will help motivate and guide them. Term Four is always a busy and exciting time, and I know that with continued dedication and a positive mindset, our students can continue to accomplish great things.

As we prepare for the upcoming holiday period, I want to wish all our students and parents a safe and restful break. May this time be filled with joy, relaxation, and fun moments with loved ones. I look forward to seeing everyone back in Term 4, ready to tackle new challenges and celebrate even more successes. I am so grateful for all that has been possible this term, and I would like to thank the parents of our Primary boys for all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into getting a Marist College boy ready each and every day here in the Primary School.

As mentioned last week, I will return to the College in Week 6 next term.

Thank you all for a fantastic Term 3 and I wish you all a wonderful Week 10.

Primary Pastoral Leader – Anthony Graham

As we approach the end of the term, I wanted to share a few important reminders and updates:

Lost Property

We have accumulated a significant amount of lost property, particularly lunchboxes. Please encourage your son to check the lost property area to reclaim any missing items before the term ends.

Appropriate Use of Laptops

During Tuesday's assembly, I reminded the boys about the appropriate use of their college laptops. It has come to our attention that some students have been entering inappropriate searches and content on online game platforms. Please be aware that our IT system monitors laptop usage from a child protection standpoint. We kindly ask for your support in monitoring your son's laptop use at home to ensure he is viewing and searching appropriate content.

As we head into the term break, I wish all families a restful and enjoyable holiday. We look forward to welcoming the boys back in Term 4 when they will return in their summer uniforms.

Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all students.

Looking at the other end of the boys education journey, Work Experience hosts are needed for our senior students.

Host Employers for Work Experience Opportunities

The VET and Careers Team are looking for host employers who can support our current Year 10-12 students with work experience opportunities in the following areas:

  • ⚡ Electrical (especially refrigeration)
  • 🩺 Health (especially medicine and physiotherapy)
  • 🎬 Theatre Production

Your expertise can greatly influence their future careers, and you’ll have the opportunity to trial potential future employees while staying connected with the Marist community and discovering new talent.

If you're interested in helping, please contact our Industry Liaison Officer, Beth Muller, on 07 3858 6463 or via email: mullere@marash.qld.edu.au

Let’s work together to shape the future of our students!

ParentOrbit Mobile App

Our new Parent Orbit mobile phone app will be available from Wednesday 18 September for you to download and install. The College will send you instructions on how to do this via email communication closer to the launch date. Our current Marist College Ashgrove mobile phone app will continue to function for a small cross-over period before being decommissioned in early Term 4.
