BASIC TRAINING STUDENT TECH TEAM

The Student Tech Team recently completed its basic training session for new members, officially wrapping up this year’s recruitment and onboarding process.

We’re proud to welcome this year’s new recruits and look forward to watching them grow in both skill and confidence throughout the year.

Our onboarding process begins with interested students applying to join the team. We value enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn and these are all skills that our new members have displayed. Selected candidates go through basic and practical training to build core skills and prepare for team responsibilities.

Training is led by current team members who demonstrate how tasks are performed and share helpful tips based on real experience. This peer-led approach encourages collaboration and helps new members build their confidence as they learn.

Now that training is complete, our newest team members are ready to take on a range of responsibilities - playing an essential role in keeping the school running smoothly behind the scenes.

If you're interested in becoming part of the team, keep an eye out for next year's applications!

HIGH-ABILITY STUDENTS VISIT THE CENTRE FOR HIGHER EDUCATION STUDIES IN SOUTH YARRA

Our visit to the CHES EXPO on Friday 30 May was a great opportunity to explore advanced VCE subjects and future learning options. It gave me a clearer idea of what’s available outside and encouraged me to rethink what path I might take later on.

One subject that caught my attention was Algorithmics. I didn’t know much about it before, the EXPO gave me a more complete understanding, its combining problem-solving and technology in a way that stood out from the usual subjects.

CHES (Centre for Higher Education Studies) aim to encourage students to "think ahead, cultivate talents, accelerate learning journeys, forge friendships, raise aspirations, and realise potential." They offer a range of advanced VCE subjects like English Language, Specialist Maths, Extended Investigation, and Algorithmics. They’re also linked with major Victorian universities like Monash University, The University of Melbourne, RMIT, Swinburne, La Trobe University, Victoria University Deakin University and Federation University, which means students can start building connections with tertiary education early.

Overall, it was a worthwhile experience. It helped me learn about new opportunities, and I’d recommend it to any student looking to extend themselves or try something outside the usual subject list.
