Last Wednesday, a number of Prep parents attended an information session about home reading to gain valuable insights into how reading is taught at Trinity, and what they can do to support their child’s reading development. One key topic discussed was phonics, a method used to teach children how letters and sounds work together to read and write words through blending and segmenting. Parents were guided through the various phonics strategies used in the classroom, helping them understand how they can reinforce these techniques at home.
Additionally, the session highlighted the importance of regular reading practice and offered practical tips for creating a positive reading environment. Emphasis was placed on fostering a love of reading and ensuring that children are exposed to a variety of texts, from storybooks to informational texts.
Thank you so much to the parents who attended. I appreciate the time and effort you took to join me and actively participate in discussion. Your contributions and willingness to share your own experiences made the session even more enriching. It was wonderful to hear how you engage with your children at home to support their literacy development. I hope you left the session with greater knowledge of how reading is taught at Trinity and are feeling better equipped with new strategies and ideas to continue to nurture your child’s love for reading.
And of course, a big thank you to Mrs Anna Plackett for working hard in the background to put together the presentation. If you have any questions about home reading, please feel free to see your child’s teacher.
We are very fortunate to have an incredibly skilful and dedicated team of Learning Support Officers (LSOs) at Trinity who play a vital role in supporting students. They work alongside the teachers providing, students with additional help to experience success. They offer both academic and social and emotional guidance and help build confidence in our students, creating a positive and inclusive environment. This year we welcomed Miss Mandy and Miss Maggie, who through making instant connections with the staff and students, are making significant contributions to the learning and wellbeing of our students. Our team of LSOs also includes Miss Rachelle, Miss Renee, Misss Annalise, Miss Sally and Ms Josie. Sadly we said goodbye to Miss Elorraine this week. For 7 years Miss Elorraine worked tirelessly with students offering personalised guidance and support for many of our students to help them overcome challenges or extend their skills and understanding. Through patience and dedication, she ensured students had the tools and encouragement to make progress in their learning. We wish her all the best in the future.
If at any time you would like to chat about the learning at Trinity, or you have any questions or concerns about your child's learning, please do not hesitate to see your child''s teacher, Mr Ru or myself.
