St Monica’s College Uniform and Grooming Expectations.
At St Monica’s College we take pride in our uniform and grooming standards. This important aspect of College life depends on the cooperation of students and the support of parents.
Our students are important ambassadors of the College and are expected to wear the uniform correctly at school and in the wider community. Wearing a uniform can promote a sense of belonging, where everyone is identifiable as being on the same team, just like players in a sporting team. Learning to adhere to uniform expectations is excellent preparation for being appropriately groomed and presented in the workplace.
Many students will embark on careers where there are specific expectations to wear a uniform and follow grooming rules. For the most part, our students are very well presented, and we continue to challenge and address students who are not complying with the St Monica’s College uniform policy.
Term 2 signals the change over from Summer Uniform into Winter Uniform. Thank you to all Monicans and parents for the smooth transition as we returned to campuses on Tuesday 22 April. A courteous reminder that only College Uniform articles as listed in the Student Planner are permitted. Additional items such as hoodies, visible apparel (long sleeve tops under short sleeves, non-College scarves, beanies, or gloves etc.) are not to be worn with the uniform at any time. This includes whilst wearing the College PE Uniform.
The correct College uniform, Summer or Winter, must be worn at all times when travelling to and from school, around campus grounds and at any College event, including after school hours.
St Monica’s College Uniform Regulations:
• College Pin is to be worn by all students on the left lapel of the College blazer
• Full school uniform is to be worn by all students every day. In exceptional circumstances, if a part of the uniform cannot be worn, the appropriate Year Level Leader must be notified in writing
• The College blazer is the only outer garment permitted for all students and must be worn to and from the College daily
• Canvas and casual shoes are not permitted
• Jumpers are not to be tied around the waist at any time. Shirts must be tucked in
• Students must ensure their hair is neat and tidy at all times. Male students must ensure hair is no longer than the top of their shirt collar. No male student may tie hair back. Male students must present clean shave. No student may braid his/her hair. Female students must tie their hair up or back, using blue or gold accessories only. Extreme hair colours and styles are not acceptable, including unnatural hair colours and shaving hair using a blade below a number 2
• Make-up (including artificial eye lashes/nail extensions) and nail polish may not be worn to school
• Jewellery is worn at owner's own risk. Students are permitted to wear one earring, plain stud or sleeper only in each ear (silver or gold not coloured); a watch; religious medal on a chain. No other jewellery is permitted
• Facial piercing is not permitted.
Repeat offenders of uniform and/or grooming infringements will be asked to attend a meeting with the relevant Year Level Leader, accompanied by their parents.
We remind parents that students adhering to the uniform and grooming standards is an expectation of their enrolment. All uniform and grooming expectations are outlined in the College planner and our students receive regular reminders at Year Level Assemblies and via email prior to their return from all holiday periods.
It is important to note that as a College we do not negotiate on uniform and grooming requirements. Any student choosing not to meet College expectations places themselves at risk of being removed from College activities and/or receiving consequences.
We strongly encourage students to make appropriate choices about how they choose to present to school. The support of parents and guardians in assisting us to uphold our expectations is greatly appreciated.
