Year Six

Dear Year Six Community,

As Term 1 comes to an end, we want to extend our gratitude for your continued support. It has been a term filled with deep learning, creativity, and collaboration. The students have engaged in various learning experiences and celebrated their achievements together. We are proud of their hard work and growth!

Reading

The Year 6 students have been engaged in poetry analysis, where they explored different poetic devices and their effects. They successfully completed their post-assessment and demonstrated their understanding of poetry. As we wrapped up this unit, they also attempted their pre-assessment for historical narratives, setting the stage for the next phase of their reading journey.

Writing

Our young writers have continued to refine their skills by exploring Free Verse and Concrete Poetry. They experimented with different ways to express their thoughts and emotions creatively. One of the highlights of this unit was publishing their 'I Am' poems, showcasing their unique voices and perspectives.

Unit of Inquiry

Our students concluded their Unit of Inquiry “Who We Are”, where they explored the physical and emotional changes experienced during puberty. To take action, they created a digital booklet titled “Navigating Through Puberty”, a guide designed to support fellow students through this important transition.

As the term wrapped up, students were provoked into their new Unit of Inquiry, “Where We Are in Place and Time.” They engaged in an exciting range of rotational activities within their house colour teams, sparking curiosity about historical perspectives, exploration, and personal connections to time and place.

Mathematics

Throughout the term, students have continued to strengthen their understanding of the four number operations. They particularly focused on division strategies, exploring different ways to solve problems efficiently and accurately. Their problem-solving skills have grown, and they are becoming more confident in tackling complex mathematical challenges.

Student Leadership

This term, our Class Captains had a fantastic opportunity to voice their ideas in the planning of our upcoming Unit of Inquiry: “Where We Are in Place and Time.” They were invited to join teachers during planning sessions, where they provided valuable insights and shared what they would like to learn. Their contributions were instrumental in shaping the direction of the unit and ensuring it remains engaging and meaningful for all students.

Summer Sports

Summer sports took place on Wednesday, 26th March where the students represented Saltwater College in various sports such as Volleyball, Cricket, Tennis, Softball, and Basketball. We were so proud of the students as they tried their best and displayed perseverance and dedication in their game.

End of Term Fun - House Colour Activities

With the end of the term in sight, we celebrated with a fun-filled House Colour Spirit Week! Students enthusiastically participated in a variety of sports and team-building activities, led by their dedicated House Captains. It was a fantastic way to foster community spirit and enjoy some well-earned relaxation after a term of hard work!

Buddies - Prep/Year 6

Our Year 6 students have been absolutely thrilled to meet their younger buddies! They have really enjoyed working alongside them, helping them settle into school life, and developing a strong and supportive bond. It has been heartwarming to see them take on leadership roles, guiding and encouraging their buddies through various activities. We look forward to more special moments together throughout the year.

We encourage all students to take this time to relax, recharge, and enjoy their term-end break. Have a restful and enjoyable holiday, and we look forward to seeing everyone back refreshed for another exciting term ahead!

  Kind regards,

  Year Six Team
