From The Principal

Marion Coady

As the end of term 3 approaches, we are going into the reporting cycle and our second parent teacher interviews on 24 September. Watch out for more information when your child(ren's) reports for mid-semester 2 are available and how to book an interview time with teachers.

There has been a number of opportunities for students across the curriculum. Excursions are continuing as well as opportunities within the school. As we come close to the end of the term, there are a number of performances of music, dance and drama. The performances come together because of the commitment of our students and staff through their work at school and out of school hours.

Their practice and rehearsals enable them to hone their skills and demonstrate their capacity to work as effective team members. For the last two weeks of the term, a visual arts exhibition will be in the front office and atrium area. The creativity and use of different media of our visual arts students will be on display.

This term has seen a number of student events including -

  • Book Week with students and staff dressing up to the theme 'Reading is Magic". Additionally, Mandy Foot, a children's book illustrator worked with a group of interested students demonstrating drawing techniques.
  • Bullying No Way Day designed to promote a safe and supportive environment.
  • Wear It Purple Day to foster a supportive, safe and inclusive environment for rainbow young people.

Student Free Day

Our fourth student free day focused on the South Australian Curriculum. By 2027 we will be implementing the curriculum. Our work on 30 August was having a look at the underpinnings of the curriculum, including knowledge, dispositions and capabilities which become the learning standards.

The standards describe what students understand, can do and be. Staff look at the capabilities and started articulating them from year 7 to 10 in their curriculum area.

Capabilities describe the skills and abilities of students, and what they are capable of producing and performing across a wide range of areas and contexts. For example, capabilities include such things as critical and creative thinking, intercultural understanding and personal and social. All of these and others are required to take on the challenge of learning as well as thrive when they leave school.
