A minimum of 3 days must be completed for Weekend Duty by each student. These days form part of the practical component of the Core units for Certificate II in Agriculture.
In saying this, we have had an increase in the number of students (especially Year 12s) swapping their weekend duties at the last minute, not turning up for their rostered weekend, or leaving early and not completing a full day on Farm. We have also found that students are not willing to participate fully in the weekend activities and making up silly excuses for not completing assigned tasks. For young adults that are likely out into the workforce in a few short months, this lack of work ethic is disappointing and frustrating to the Farm Staff.
Please note that all students rostered for Weekend Farm will have to complete the FULL allotment of rostered time to be SIGNED OFF for the day(s). That includes the morning shift (feeding and checking pigs, checking sheep, and checking cattle), PLUS the afternoon shift (feeding pigs and doing lock up). If students decide not to be present at either session, they will not be signed off for the day.
Playing sport is not an excuse for missing Weekend Duty. Students have plenty of notice as to when they are rostered on. If their rostered weekend falls during the sporting season, they will need to use initiative and swap to a more convenient time early on. Weekend/day leave will not be granted to those students rostered on for the weekend. Parents, please be aware of when your child has Weekend Duty and not enable them to get out of their rostered time. Making roster changes does not only affect the student wishing to change, but also the student and parents of the replacement, Residential Staff and Farm Staff. It creates a flow-on effect that then leads to Year 12 students having to return in Term 4 to complete Weekend Duty. Unfortunately, this will be the case for a number of students this year.
