In partnership with Grower Group Alliance and the South-West WA Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub, our students are again participating in the Climate Resilience Challenge. This year the focus has shifted away from the specifics of drought and more on the challenges of a changing and variable climate. Our students in Year 11 Plant Production systems will complete the challenge as part of their learning, and those that want to submit their application are encouraged to do so.
The Minister for Education, Hon Dr Tony Buti MLA, has released a draft Regional Education Strategy that is currently open for consultation. The final version of this Strategy will be a blueprint for more effective delivery of education in regional settings and to improve post-school options for our students. You can view the draft Strategy at www.education.wa.edu.au/regionaleducationstrategy.
The Strategy discusses current initiatives and new opportunities within four pillars. Under Pillar 2: Expand curriculum delivery, Agricultural Colleges are recognised as a successful, current initiative. “The Western Australian Colleges of Agriculture have a significant role in preparing secondary students for careers in the agricultural and related industries. They offer students flexible pathways such as WACE, VET and Australian curriculum delivered in an agricultural context.” It is great to have our unique educational setting recognised as a successful option for students.
Feedback is encouraged from all stakeholders of regional public schools, and I encourage all parents to review the draft strategy in respect to their own child/ren's education and provide feedback to regional.education.feedback@education.wa.edu.au by Friday 20 September 2024.
We have had a number of positions advertised recently on our Facebook feed. I would encourage families to look into them and share them so that we can continue to run all of our programs to the highest of standards.
This fortnight is incredibly busy, including the Dowerin Fields Days, a School Development Day, and the College Ball. I encourage all of our students (and staff) to enjoy these occasions, whilst at the same time, look after themselves with plenty of rest and healthy diets. There are a number of viruses around that love to strike when the body is weary, and there is so much more to enjoy in the last few weeks of this term.
