Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 8, Term 3

WEEK 8 LEARNING

CBL

This week we will unpack the 'Abundance and Scarcity Mindsets' and how these can positively or negatively impact our thoughts and therefore our social interactions and relationships with others.

What you can do at home:

Share and discuss the CBL work that students have completed at school and helpful ways to shift a Scarcity Mindset into an Abundance Mindset

📚 Literacy

Phonics

We are looking at the morphology surrounding the base words of 'dict' and how to build upon them with affixes (dictation, dictionary, predict).  Students continue to build their vocabulary through daily exposure to word definitions and how these can be used in writing. Grade Threes will iPads to publish written poems and Grade Fours will begin practicing touch typing on a school provided keyboard as they publish their poetry.

What you can do at home:

We are noticing that students are not completing set tasks on Reading Eggs. Encourage your child to log in to your Reading Eggs account and complete the 'suffix - ed' and 'suffix -ly' revision lessons that has been assigned by your teacher.

List words with the above patterns and sounds and sort them. You could find these in your reading.

Reading

Students will be immersed in a range of poetry and will identify literary devices, rhyming and syllabic patterns. We will focus on developing rhythm and emphasis when reading aloud in fluency pairs with a selection of poems.

What you can do at home:

We encourage you to model reading different types of poetry (rhyming books like Dr Seuss, Mem Fox and Pamela Allen) to your child as well as listening to them read at home. Encourage your child to set aside time to read every night, include time to read aloud and or record themselves reading on their iPad. Some students are participating in the Premiers Reading Challenge, this is a great way to expose your child to a variety of literature.

Writing

Students will continue to explore writing poems with a range of structures including Limericks, Haiku, Colour and Simile Poems. They will learn to use a range of rhyming patterns and literary devices.

What you can do at home:

Support your child to make lists of rhyming words and have a go at putting them into a poem - you could say it, sing it or write it down.

🎲 Maths

PLACE VALUE - DECIMALS

This week we will revisit Place Value with the inclusion of tenths and hundredths. Students will order numbers on a number line and compare their size using the symbols for greater than, less than and equal to.

What you can do at home

Encourage your child to notice decimals in every day life ie - measurements and money.

Complete 400 points of Mathletics including all set task.  You can support your child to practice their times tables. In Grade Three, our focus is on 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. In Grade Four we continue to strengthen these as well as building in 4s, 6s, 7s, 8s and 9s.

Book Fair This Week

Our Book Fair will be held this week from the 2nd - 6th September. It will be set up in our current library space for the week and is open before and after school for the purchase of books. You may even like to purchase a book to donate to your child's classroom library.

Hats On

As of September 1st, we would like to remind you that our school adheres to the SunSmart policy set by the Victorian Government. All students are required to wear a broad-brimmed hat when outdoors from the 1st September when UV levels are typically higher.

Please ensure your child brings a hat to school every day to protect them from the sun's harmful rays.

Thank you for your support in keeping our school community safe and sun-smart.
