Mandarin

大家好!

Hi Everyone!

Wow can you believe we’ve flown through to week eight already?! It has been another great term so far linking with your classrooms and spreading language throughout the school, 潘老师 and 王老师 love seeing and hearing you practise your Chinese skills.

Foundation

The past few weeks Foundation students have been exploring numbers in different ways. Students have linked their knowledge to class games and to the unit of inquiry ‘living things need energy to survive’ by counting objects found in nature. As students get ready for their zoo trip we have learnt linked vocabulary and used our number knowledge to count animal legs.

Year One

The past few weeks Year One students have also been exploring numbers in different ways. Students have been open minded and knowledgeable when using numbers with different topics including counting minibeasts' legs. Students have also begun looking into the different ways minibeasts can move through Chinese language and class games.

Year Two

The past few weeks Year Two students have been exploring directions in Mandarin. Students have learnt how to differentiate between left, right, up, down, in front and behind, creating posters and practising positioning in the classroom.

Year Three

The past few weeks Year Three students have been inquiring into ‘little decisions have a big impact’ and in Mandarin we have been researching waste separation, recycling and plastic reduction. We have looked at key words relating to bin colours and plastic and have used these in creating posters for school and home that encourage people to make small changes that help look after our environment.

Year Four

The past few weeks students have been learning how to introduce themselves in Mandarin by creating a profile describing their name, age and hobbies. Students have been working hard to both write and speak in Chinese, showing their skills not only to us Mandarin teachers but also to other in school and visiting observers.

Year Five

The past few weeks students have been looking into seasons. Students have used their prior knowledge of numbers to write their birthday in Chinese characters and then find what season they were born in. In the coming weeks we will be linking our knowledge of season to the Mid-Autumn festival, an important festival in Chinese culture.

Year Six

The past few weeks Year Six students have begun their Exhibition unit inquiring into science and its many modes and uses. Students have been deep diving into different areas of Traditional Chinese Medicine, learning about Qi and Chinese Medicine tools as well as the benefits of cupping, acupuncture, Chinese massage and Chinese herbal medicine.
