F-2 News

 Foundation/1

We have had a fantastic 2 weeks in Foundation/1.

Reading:

Our reading foci have been predicting and using our prior knowledge.  Last week the students enjoyed predicting what would happen next while reading 'Banjo and Ruby Red', while this week they had to use their prior knowledge to make connections with the story 'Winston and the Indoor Cat.' All stories this week have been in line with our Inquiry Unit of Friendship and Fairness.

Writing:

We have been working hard to 'ban the boring' sentences by extending them with adding 'Where and When'.  Some students have even been adding adjectives to make their sentences super-exciting. For Book Week, we wrote a sentence on who we were dressed as, from what book and why we were dressed as that character.

Maths:

The past fortnight in Maths, we have been working a lot on number and place value using MAB blocks. The students are learning that two-digit numbers are made up of tens and ones and when we have 10 ones, it becomes 1 ten. They have also been practising their location and direction skills and had fun hiding an object and giving directions to find it.

Reminders:

Please check Compass for any upcoming events and important information. We have an excursion to the Echuca Paramount on the 19th of September to watch the Movie 'Runt'.  The F-2 students have been enjoying listening to this story in class are looking forward to seeing it come to life on the big screen.

Grade 2

We have had a fantastic two weeks in Grade 2!

Aged Care:

Lots of fun in the past two weeks! We love talking and doing activities with the aged care residents.

Writing:

In writing students have been busy researching and collecting facts on their favourite athlete and the country that their athlete is from. They should be so proud of their efforts!

Maths:

We have been exploring number sequences and practising using number lines to solve maths questions!

Inquiry:

We continued our journey around the world, in the past two weeks we explored Philippines and America!

In our time in the Philippines we learnt some fun games to play, tried coconut macaroons which is a popular dessert, and discovered that Chocolate Hills actually has no chocolate on it! In summer the colour of the hills turns into a chocolate brown.

Whilst in America we learnt about different landmarks including the Statue of Liberty and the Grand Canyon and created the American flag using icing and biscuits!

Last Friday was Bullying No Way Day. We discussed how we are all different and unique and that we need to be respectful and inclusive to all individuals.

Book Week Fun!!

Reminders:

Next week Wednesday we have an excursion to the Kyabram Bocce Club as apart of our Inquiry Unit. Please check compass that your child has been given permission to attend.

Have a wonderful weekend!
