Grade 5 - 6

Reading

Students read information reports about specific animals, and went through a hands-on learning experience that improved their research and analytical skills. They started by consolidating their understanding about learning how to find and highlight the most important facts. As they annotated the texts, they marked key details like habitat, diet, and behaviour, which helped them better understand and remember the information of their assigned animal. By summarising their findings, students turned their notes into clear and concise reports, practising how to present collated information in an understandable way. This approach not only helped them learn more about animals but also taught them useful skills in thinking critically and managing information.

Writing

Students embarked on an exciting project where they researched, planned, drafted, and published an information report about an animal unknown to them. They started by conducting research to uncover details about the unfamiliar species, gathering information from various sources to understand its characteristics, habitat, and behaviour which fed information into their plan. During the drafting phase, students organised their findings into coherent paragraphs, carefully writing and revising their content to improve clarity and accuracy which assisted them to then publish their piece of writing.

Maths

In Week 5 students continued their learning about decimals and then extended that by focusing on percentages in Week 6. They learnt how percentages and decimals are related, discovering that 50% is the same as 0.5 and 25% is the same as 0.25. They practised converting between percentages and decimals and incorporating fraction knowledge through various tasks to reinforce their understanding. By applying these conversions in different problems, they saw how percentages, decimals and fractions represent the same ideas in different forms. Students also completed their post test at the conclusion of Week 6.

Book Week/Day Dress Up

Students arrived Thursday morning in amazing costumes as their favourite book characters. It was awesome to see the range of costumes and the ones planned between friends. We are proud of all the students for being so respectful during the morning parade and making it a very enjoyable celebration on the day. Please see some photos below.
