Grade 2
It’s been a busy couple of weeks in Year 2! Here is what has been happening…
Book Week Parade
On August 22nd, our school had an amazing book day parade, with the majority of our students dressing up in fabulous costumes of their favourite characters and role models.
The day started with a School Parade in the Gym at 9am, where one by one, the grades walked circles around the gym giving high fives and showing off their amazing outfits.
Afterwards we all read books and participated in book week activities to celebrate the Magic of Reading.
Check out all the photos from the day on the school's Facebook Page!
Mathematics
In our math lessons over the past fortnight, students have been diving into multiplication. They explored different ways to write and work out multiplication sums including:
Each strategy helps the students build their understanding of multiplication, so as we move through school and learn our times tables, we will know what they actually mean. Practicing strategies like this at home is always a good idea, as they will only strengthen the students' understanding of maths and help them in years to come.
Next week we will start Division!
Initialit
In literacy, our focus this week has been on: contractions, and students have been exploring how two words become one, and the apostrophe is used to replace an unneeded letter.
We also have been learning the rule of when to use LE on the end of a word, versus when to use EL.
Our tricky words this week are:
- Around
- Could
- Couldn’t
Homework
Please make sure your children are practising their spelling words, doing some reading and completing their Maths Online Tasks over the week. If you need your children’s passwords for Maths Online again, please email their teacher!
