Athletics Carnival Review

What a way to start the term! It was a fantastic turn out and the event was a huge success, both on and off the track. Thank you to everyone that came along and made the day a heap of fun including the teachers for their support across the day, with special mention to those who worked on the track and field events all day. Participation was at a peak both on the track, with 100m races coming down to the wire, some outstanding jumps and records smashed!

The day started with the 1500m walk and it was a beautiful way to get everyone moving and kick off the day. We then moved into the 100m events, and it was absolutely fantastic to see so many competing in heat after heat, particularly in the junior events. The field events were kept busy with often lines stretching out 20 25 competitors! Here are some more of the highlights…

  • We then had some tight contests and age-old battles in the 100m dash, with students putting it all on the line for the glory of fastest student at DVC (bragging rights go to Samuel Raftery who won in a time of 12.20! Other track highlights included the 3000m girls where it was the young guns Grace Robinson and Ruby Moore that took it out, while multiple lead changes saw a tight tussle between Danny Andrikopoulos and Aidan Causer in the 1500m. Both get the opportunity to compete at Division this week!

  • Out in the field highlights included the 13/u boys triple jump with Liam Carroll blowing the competition away almost 3 meters! Records were broken in the 15/U boys shotput, with Ben Hodgson throwing his way into the books. Also, the hotly contested 18-20 boys long jump saw over 10 students competing with Austin Sinclair coming away with the win.

  • Costumes did not disappoint with the high stakes fashion on the field, with my personal favourites, Kylie and Kellie and their magical unicorn costumes!! And what about the staff vs student relay to finish the day saw some epic runs from the students as well as crowd favourites Gary Moran, Tim Roach, Grant Morgan and Matthew Yates.

Interschool Sport Term 2

We’ve had a great start to the term with many teams out competing in State and Regional Finals. To kick off Term 2 we had 4 swimmers compete at the SSV State Championships.

Ruby Moore finished 4th in the 12-15yo 200m IM (as a 13 year old!) An amazing effort for someone who still has 2 more years in this age group!

Our 17/U girls relay team left nothing in the tank as they finished a split second (even less!!) behind to finish 4th. The team completed the relay in 2:05:35 while 3rd place finished in 2:05:26!! Well done girls!

Our Inter baseball boys had a great day, missing out on finals by half a game. The way they represented the College was outstanding and they made us all very proud. Also the tennis teams have been out in Force after we dominated our Division in term 1. Our Intermediate boys came home Runners Up at Region while our 7’s and 8’s are competing this week.

Last Friday saw the first of our Diamond Valley Mountain Bike riders take to the slopes. They represented the College in both the Rocky Trail Academy and the Fox Superflow Sealed event both placing in the top group 5th and 25th out of 123 riders!! Congratulations Tane Yalden and Liam McNeill on your outstanding iniative and efforts.
