Grade 2 Community News

To our grade 2 families!

It has been amazing to see all students coming to school every day. Just a reminder to make sure students get to school on time to avoid any interruptions in their learning and to earn a point for their class attendance!

This past fortnight, students have been working hard and engaged in learning all about Ancient Greece, including the origin of the Olympic Games, family life, Ancient Sparta VS. Ancient Athens and so much more! Teachers have been loving learning all about Greece too!

Students have taken what they have learned within their reading lessons to begin writing their own historical recounts. Our recounts will consist of planning, drafting, editing, and revising as well as publishing.

Students have been successful in learning about shape and transformation in class too. We have been able to create our own maps using BOLTS (border, orientation, legend, title, scale) and our amazing imaginations. We have been able to identify locations, landmarks and bird’s eye view on the Werribee Zoo map and the Melbourne Zoo map! We are also learning all about 2D and 3D shapes, including their features, names and how to draw them!

Through geography, students are learning to locate the 7 continents and all 5 of the oceans that we have on earth!

During week 3, students will examine neurodiversity within the classroom, including understanding autism and how everyone’s learning and thinking differs as well as respectful language surrounding autism.

Students have been reintroduced to morphology too! Morphology is where students learn how to change the meaning of words, such as, base work ‘give’, add suffix ‘-en’ to the end and the word changes to ‘given’. Throughout week 3, students will learn about the suffix -en and -est.
