Physical Education News

Dear Students, Families, and Parents,

The students have been working really hard on their skills as well as their knowledge of the games that they are learning. Keep up the great work everyone!

Well done to all of our students who competed in the district Cross Country! You all represented our school very well and made us all proud!

Upcoming Sports Winter Gala Day 5th June

Prep:

The Preps have been working really hard with their Fundamental Motor skills and have been making lots of growth. We are still focusing heavily on our high catches and have been using the vocab release, rotate, and catch. As well as high catches we are teaching the students to choose which catch is appropriate to the position of what they are catching whether they need to perform a bucket catch or a high catch.

Grades 1 and 2:

Grade 1s and 2s have been revising their high-catching techniques as well as their forward rolls. They have now started their next area of learning by moving into dribbling. We have been practicing our penguin feet to control the ball with little taps.

Grade 3 and 4:

Grade 3s and 4s have been working really hard on their skills of 3 steps and a bounce followed by a pass as well as defending. We have been using European Handball as the base sport to teach these skills. This has also been teaching the students how to work in teams to move the ball and adapt to different rule changes as they have been playing.

Grade 5 and 6:

The Grades 5 and 6s have been working on Invasion games as well with the Grade 5s learning the different skills of AFL and the Grade 6s playing European Handball. The Grade 5s are currently learning how to handball a football while the grade 6s are focusing on defensive strategies such as zone defending and man on man.
