Grade 6 Community News

Well we are definitely in full swing again as we continue our learning in Term 2.

It has been great to see students continuously coming to school prepared with their reading journals filled out. Reading at home really does make such a big difference. Thank you to all the parents who take the time to go over the books our students are reading.

In Reading, we have finished our Reading to learn unit based around the French Revolution. This fascinating period in history has taught our students a variety of different concepts as well as introducing key figures such as King Louis and Marie Antoinette.

We are continuing our reading journey by exploring “BOY” by Roald Dahl, an autobiography of his life. Students have been thoroughly enjoying the beginning of this unit and have been learning how to annotate their books to deepen their comprehension and understanding of the text.

Our next reading unit will focus on Ancient Greece and Rome. We have created a PowerPoint for students to review that will help them with their understanding and learning if they would like to.

In writing, we are creating a biography and linking this in with our reading. Students will study the structure of biographies, different language features, purpose of biographies and write their own biography on a famous Australian.

Our Vocabulary words have been selected from our BOY unit. Please test your child on what they mean, and how they can use them in a sentence.

seared, amputated, subside, gravest, jaunty, sullen, hoard, malignant, tweed, form.
