Grade 1 Report

As part of the Past and Present History Unit this term, the Grade 1 students visited the Melbourne Museum on Friday 3rd May.

“On Friday morning we woke up very excited because it was not going to be a normal school day. We were going on our very first Grade 1 excursion to the Melbourne Museum.”  Rory, Chloe and Basil

The students participated in the "My Grandmother's Toybox" presentation. My Grandmother's Toy Box is an illustrated storybook about toys kept through several generations of a family.

“There was a doll in My Grandmother’s Toybox. It was very old. It had a

pretty pink dress on with purple frills around the edge.” Chloe and Rozi

“There was a camera, and it was midnight black and very old. You would forget about having your photo taken because the picture took a long time

to come out.” Ayisha, John and Rory

The story, My Grandmother's Toy Boxwas created to introduce the concepts of continuity and change.

“We learned that the toys in the past were different to the toys today. They were unusual. Our toys are much better, and they are more colourful now and we have more toys to choose from.” Maggie, Victoria and Pippa

The students also got to explore other parts of the museum.

“I saw a red back spider and it was walking around the enclosure.” John

“There was a space where there was water and we saw four eels in it and a couple of fish. One of the eels was chasing two fish. That made us laugh.” Ryan and Renley

All in all, the Grade 1 students had a fabulous time at the Melbourne Museum.
