Student Representative Council Update
On Tuesday the 21st of April, we held a Whole School Assembly to commemorate ANZAC Day. We were honoured to welcome our guest speaker, Mr John Coulson, who shared his experiences serving in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War in 1967. He also offered thoughtful reflections on the meaning of ANZAC Day and its ongoing significance, recognising not only members of the armed forces, but all who serve our community, including emergency workers, doctors, nurses, firefighters, police and teachers. His words provided staff and students with a valuable insight into the importance of remembrance and service to others.
In addition to his service in Vietnam, Mr Coulson has also served in the British Army, spent many years as an Army reservist, is a long-term educator, including as a former Principal of Wellington Secondary College.
We sincerely thank Mr Coulson for sharing his remarkable story and perspective. We also thank our Koorie Captain, Raine Williams, for delivering a beautiful Acknowledgement of Country; Mr Telford for his wonderful bagpipe performance; Mr Smith for his Principal’s Address; Blake Faliszewski, our Sports Captain, for announcing the winning House from our recent House Tournament and Athletics Carnival (please see our Sports page for more information); and one of our College Captains, Indiana Groves, for reciting the poem ‘We’re All Australians Now’ by A.B. “Banjo” Paterson.
Finally, we thank our SRC Coordinator, Ms Erjavec, for her support in coordinating this special assembly.
ANZAC DAY SERVICE
We thank our student leaders, Indi, Bailey, Asma and Stephanie, and Ms Stone for attending the Pakenham Dawn Service on ANZAC Day to represent our College. They said it was a moving and meaningful experience and encouraged other students to attend in the future.
ANZAC Day is a very important time to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who have served, and to recognise the lasting impact of their service on our lives and community.
Lest we forget.
Thanking you,
Your Student Representative Council
