From The Team

Hello Senior School Parents and Carers,

It has been another busy and exciting time in Senior School! We have welcomed parent helpers in the mornings to hear our students read which has proved to be a great experience for everyone. Students recently enjoyed celebrating David Attenborough Day, where they explored the importance of protecting our environment and learned more about the incredible work of conservationists around the world.

We are also incredibly proud of the students who represented our school at the District Cross Country event. Their determination, resilience and sportsmanship were outstanding, and they should be congratulated for the way they supported one another throughout the day.

Our Respect Board continues to grow as we recognise students who consistently demonstrate kindness, responsibility and respect within our school community. It has been wonderful to celebrate the positive actions and attitudes shown by so many of our senior students.

As part of Education Week, students participated in a range of engaging learning activities that celebrated curiosity, creativity and the importance of education. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase student learning and the vibrant culture of our school community.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

- Sarah, Rachel, Merran and Caroline

Reminders

  • Expression of Interest: The Portsea Camp - 2nd September to 4th September
    • If your child WILL be attending, confirm their place by paying the $50 non-refundable deposit at the office
    • Complete the non-attendance slip if your child will NOT be attending

  • Reading logs/diary entries to be completed and returned every Friday

  • Homework to be returned Friday 22nd May

Try This...

A farmer built a small vegetable garden for his rabbits.

The garden has:

  • 2 long sides that are 9 metres each
  • 2 short sides that are 4 metres each

The farmer wants to put a fence all the way around the garden, so the rabbits stay safe.

How many metres of fencing does he need altogether? 🥕🐇

Now design your own animal enclosure with 6 sides and calculate how much fencing you need.

David Attenborough Day

Last week, our senior students celebrated David Attenborough’s 100th birthday with a range of exciting and creative learning activities inspired by the natural world. Students explored documentaries narrated by David Attenborough, participated in a free choice writing task, made “frog in a pond” which we enjoyed eating at the end of the day, and designed colourful collages inspired by animals and habitats around the world, using natural resources from our school grounds.

For lunch, families were invited to join us for a special picnic in the hall. Students enjoyed sharing their learning and spending time together in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Many students and staff added to the excitement by dressing up as their favourite animals or even as David Attenborough himself, bringing plenty of creativity, laughter, and jungle-inspired fun to the celebration.

District Cross Country

On Friday the 15th, 35 of our brave Senior students represented Scoresby Primary School at the District Cross Country held at Bayswater Secondary College. Everyone ran 3 kilometres around a lake just outside the school grounds. All students did an awesome job; some even qualified for the Division Cross Country!

It was a long and challenging course, with hills, gravel paths, and bridges to navigate. Congratulations to all the students who competed against some very strong schools. Our school did an incredible effort and were very lucky with the weather! Well done to everyone who took part and made it through!

Special congratulations to the following students who have qualified for Division Cross Country: - Nick, Kaiden, Laura, Eliza, Mia, Kai, Blake, Ellarae and Gracie. Nick and Kai were our top ranked students placing 3rd in their respective age group.

Division Cross Country will be held on Wednesday, 27th May at Gilbert Park, Knoxfield.

Respect Board

In our Senior School, we have discussed that RESPECT means treating others the way you would like to be treated. It includes listening when someone is speaking, being kind with your words and actions, and accepting that everyone is different. At school, respect can look like taking turns, following rules, and caring for shared spaces. When we show respect, we help create a safe and positive environment where everyone feels valued and included.

The students have access to RESPECT cards which they fill in and place in a special box when they “catch” someone showing RESPECT. We read the cards out during the week and celebrate everyone who has shown RESPECT either in the classroom or in the yard. This week's winner was ALYSSA! Well done for being a great role model of respect for your peers!

HOOP TIME HELP NEEDED

We are hoping to save costs travelling to Hoop Time by organising parents to drive our students to the State Basketball Centre (George St, Wantirna South) rather than hiring a bus which is extremely expensive. Hoop Time for the Years 3/4 students who have opted in is on Tuesday 23 June. 5/6 Hooptime Is on Monday 10th August.

If you are able to transport our students to and from the venue and/or assist on the day, please let Mrs Coster karen.coster@education.vic.gov.au know by next Friday 29th May.
