Religious Education Update

FAMILY PARISH MASS

I am very pleased to announce that St Aidan’s and Holy Family, Family Parish Mass will be on Sunday 24th of May at 9:30 am to celebrate Pentecost together. Following mass we would love for you to join us to share in a Pentecost Cake to celebrate the birthday of the church. We would love to see all our wonderful students and their families at this special mass. 

DOLLAR FOR A DINNER

Today, our students brought in a gold coin donation in hand to support 'Dollar for a Dinner'. This initiative raised $150.00, which will go towards purchasing ingredients to make sandwiches for the St Vincent de Paul Society. If you would like to participate in making sandwiches for this event please come along on Thursday the 14th of May at 9am for approximately 1hour. Please let the office know if you are able to attend.

FRIDAY CLASS MASSES

We are excited to continue our Friday class Masses this term. Please find the timetable for your child’s class. If your child has been given a reading it will be sent home prior to their class mass for them to practice.

CLASS PRAYER 

You are warmly invited to attend the upcoming Class Prayers which will be held in the students classrooms.

ANZAC DAY LITURGY

We acknowledged Anzac Day with a whole school liturgy led by Year 3. A special thank you to our important guests, Commander Simon Kelly, Maroubra RSL Vice President Mr Jim Coady,  Mr Warren Crotty and Major Aimee Hamer.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL WINTER APPEAL

This term St Aidan’s will be running two fundraising initiatives for the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. Let’s help end the homelessness crisis together. 

Our school’s contributions to the Winter Appeal will allow Vinnies to continue supporting older women who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, to have access to the support they need to get back on their feet and to be safe and well. 

Fundraiser One - St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal

St Aidan’s has a long standing tradition of participating in the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. Please see the table below for what each class is responsible for donating. To uphold the dignity of those receiving goods, please ensure that all food items are not due to expire for at least the next 6 months.

Students can bring donations to school with them and in in each classroom there will be labelled containers for them to place the donations. 

Fundraiser Two - Pyjama Day

Towards the end of Term Two (Tuesday 2nd June), St Aidan’s will be having a Pyjama Day. All students are invited to wear their pyjamas and dressing gowns to school. Every student who wears their pyjamas is asked to donate a “winter woolie” that will be donated to the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. Please ensure “winter woolies” are in new and clean condition. 

We will be collecting:

• Socks
• Scarves
• Beanies
• Fuzzy slippers
• Gloves

BRIGIDINE CHARISM

This term our Brigidine charism of Justice has been at the heart of our learning and reflection. Students explored what justice looks like in our world, our school and in their own daily choices. Through discussion, creativity, and collaboration, they unpacked how small actions can contribute to a more fair and compassionate community.

To bring their learning to life, students created a class display showcasing how to live out justice in practical ways. 

SISTINE CHAPEL EXPERIENCE

A remarkable new exhibition has arrived in Sydney, offering families a chance to experience Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel like never before. Sistine Chapel: Revelations uses immersive projection, vivid colour, and detailed storytelling to bring the famous ceiling and artworks to life.

Located in a purpose‑built venue near St Mary’s Cathedral, the exhibition lets visitors step inside a full‑scale re‑creation of the chapel’s atmosphere, making it an engaging way for students to explore art, history, and creativity beyond the classroom.

RCIA

Please find attached the booklet for School-Parish Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). It is a structured program that prepares candidates to be received into the Catholic Church and thereafter live as faithful followers of Jesus Christ. Sydney Catholic Schools has a diverse and growing mixture of students and parents from non-Catholic religious backgrounds. There is also a significant number of students from Catholic families entering our primary and secondary schools who have yet to receive Baptism or other sacraments of initiation. Hence, the need for an adapted parish-school RCIA program to address these needs. If you would like your child to recieve the sacraments of intiation please contact the Holy Family parish office.
