YEAR 1 EXCURSION TO VAUCLUSE HOUSE

On Wednesday 29 April, Year 1 visited Vaucluse House as they have been learning about the past in History. They learned about how people cooked, cleaned and played games 170 years ago. They explored the old house and gardens and noticed how different life was without electricity, modern toys or appliances. Some Year 1 students share their favourite part of the excursion:

KINDERGARTEN EXCURSION TO ROYAL BOTANIC GARDEN

Our Kindergarten explorers headed to the Royal Botanic Gardens on Tuesday 5 May for a magical excursion inspired by Pamela Allen’s classic tale, Alexander’s Outing.

As they retraced the steps of the famous duckling through the lush greenery, the children immersed themselves in a variety of hands on learning experiences. It was a wonderful day of discovery where storytelling and sunshine made for the perfect lesson. What some students had to say about the excursion…

Ziggy - On Tuesday we went to see the Bottle tree. It was pointing all different ways.

Eliza - We went to Botanic gardens and I saw birds. We got to save Alexander.

Madeline - I loved the gardens because we got to measure the two big trees using a measuring tape. 

Leo - We went to see the bees and we tried to hold them. They were stingless bees. 

YEARS 3 & 4 EXCURSION TO THE ROCKS 

The Stage 2 Excursion to The Rocks was amazing! We started our day in Circular Quay getting to know about the natural environment and the Indigenous names of the land and plants. We went for a lovely walk and saw the Harbour Bridge up close! Afterwards, we went to dig up artefacts like real archeologists at The Big Dig Archaeology Education Centre! Each of us had the chance to scrape and brush away the sand to find hidden artefacts. Just like archeologists did at the site to find things that were left behind from the British convicts.

On Tuesday, both Year 4 and Year 3 went on an excursion to The Rocks! First we went to the discovery museum and looked at all the Indigenous artefacts. Some of these artefacts included a spear thrower, kangaroo skin which they used to protect themselves from the weather and a boondi stick which they used to hunt. Then, we went to a place where three convicts lived after they were transported to Australia for the crimes they committed. Their names were George Cribb, Anne Armsden and Margaret Byrne. We learnt all about their lives and how they settled there in The Rocks. By far the coolest part of the excursion was the digging experience! Year 4 got the chance to dig up artefacts like real life archeologists! We all had the best day!
