INFORMATION & REMINDERS
Donations for Prep Garden
We would love donations for our Prep garden to support play-based learning. If you have any items at home that you no longer need, we would greatly appreciate contributions such as pots, pans, cutlery or sand toys.
Please only donate items you already have at home - there is absolutely no need to purchase anything.
Term 2 Specialist Timetable
CURRICULUM
*Please remind your child to go to the toilet before they enter the classroom.
Phonics and reading
We are learning about E ( short vowel sound as in 'egg') and reviewing CVC words with the vowels we know so far.
Our learning focus will include:
- Understanding the phonemes (the sound each letter makes)
- Learning the cued articulation for these sounds
- Identifying where we might see each letter in a word
- Practising the graphemes (the way we write the letter), including correct letter formation
- Reading and writing 3 letter words using the sounds we know
What can you do at home?
• Support your child to read the decodable book in their Reading Pocket. Try and aim to read every day, if you can.
• The 'Roll and Read' page is a great way to practise sounding out and blending words, especially for students who find reading sentences a little challenging.
•Ask your child to tell you the sound that E makes, and to show you the cued articulation for the sound. You can also review the letters and sounds we have learned so far using the cards below. When practising, say them like this: “A spells /a/.”
•Learn the Heart Words (in red booklet)
• Work through the optional UFLI pages.

Literature: reading responses and writing
Our mentor week is Kookoo Kookaburra by Gregg Dreise. Students will explore the character traits of the main character and think about cause and effect within the story. They will also discuss the ideas of being a bystander and an upstander, and reflect on the important messages of kindness throughout the text.
In Writing, students will practise forming the letter E, with a focus on correct entry and exit points. They will also review the formation of previously taught letters.
Students will sound out and write CVC words using the sounds they know, and write short, dictated sentences. They will also use their lined writing books to have a go at independently writing their own sentences using a picture prompt.
What can you do at home?
•Practice letter formation of E and other previously taught letters (see list below).
•Provide activities that build hand strength and coordination, such as playing with playdough, threading beads or using tweezers to pick up small objects.
•Write some 3 letter words using the taught sounds (see the picture cards above!)
Maths
We are continuing our exploration of part–whole relationships. Students will identify how many more are needed to make numbers to 5 using a five-frame and to 10 using a ten-frame. They will also practise making number pairs to 5 and 10, and explore how numbers up to 10 can be created from smaller numbers.
What can you do at home?
• Practise breaking apart small numbers using everyday items (eg. “We have 5 grapes -how can we split them into two groups?”) and talk about the parts and the whole.
• Play simple games using fingers, toys or snacks to show different ways to make a number (eg. 4 can be 2 and 2, or 3 and 1).
Wellbeing
SWPBS
Our focus is to Be a Learner by using our learning time wisely, staying focused on tasks and showing persistence when learning feels challenging.
Respectful Relationships
Students will learn about the importance of permission and consent. They will explore how to ask for, and give, permission in different situations, and begin to understand that everyone has the right to feel safe and respected. This supports students to make safe, thoughtful choices with their peers.
Cyber Safety
Students will identify trusted adults who they can turn to and explore responsible ways to seek help when they feel unsafe online.
