Bullying Prevention: Creating a Safe and Respectful School Community

Wonga Park Primary School is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for every student. Bullying in any form is not acceptable, and we take proactive steps to prevent it while supporting all members of our community.

What is bullying?

Bullying is repeated behaviour that intentionally harms, intimidates or isolates another person. It can include physical actions (such as hitting or pushing), verbal behaviours (such as name-calling or teasing), social behaviours (such as excluding others or spreading rumours), and online interactions (such as hurtful messages or posts).

Our Approach

We focus on building a culture of kindness, respect and responsibility across the school through School Wide Positive Behaviours and our Matrix of Expectations. This includes teaching social and emotional skills in the classroom, encouraging students to speak up and seek help, and supporting positive peer relationships. Setting clear expectations and consistent responses help ensure all students feel safe and supported.

As part of our whole-school approach, students participate in weekly Wellbeing lessons. Each term we allocate two-weeks of this curriculum to bullying prevention and draw upon evidenced based recources such as Bully Stoppers. Through  explicit teaching students learn about the different types of bullying, overt and covert behaviours, as well as strategies for prevention and how to seek help from a trusted adult when needed.

Strengthening our Approach

As part of strengthening our whole-school approach to bullying prevention, we recently reviewed our school's Bullying Prevention Policy and are introducing two key dates of recognition. In 2026, we will take part in Bullying No Way Week, joining schools across Australia in the third week of August to promote kindness and stand together against bullying.

From 2027, we plan to introduce Do It For Dolly Day. This year it will be held on May 8, and while it is not yet part of our school calendar, we encourage families to explore the Dolly’s Dream website to promote kindness and raise awareness about bullying.

How families can help

Parents and carers play an important role in supporting student wellbeing. By talking regularly with your child, encouraging open communication, and contacting the school if you have any concerns, you help us work together to support every child.

Preventing bullying is a shared responsibility, and through strong partnerships between students, staff and families, we can ensure our school remains a place where everyone feels safe, valued and respected.

If you would like further information or support, please check out the recources below and contact your child’s teacher or a member of the Wellbeing Team.
