Twenty‑one students travelled to Mt Gambier, South Australia last Friday to participate in the prestigious Generations in Jazz music festival, joining more than 5,000 student musicians from across Australia and New Zealand. The festival commenced with a concert on Friday evening featuring renowned jazz composer and trumpeter Bert Joris.
On Saturday, the College Big Band and Jazz Band performed in separate divisions for adjudicators and received valuable feedback. The Big Band achieved an outstanding fourth place, finishing just one point behind third place. Congratulations to Joshua, Jaime, Sydney, Pearce and Aidan, who were awarded Best Rhythm Section in a highly competitive field of 20 schools. In addition, Ethan, Jaime and Pearce were selected for the prestigious “Superband”, recognising them as the leading musicians on their respective instrumental part.
The Saturday night Gala Concert featured internationally renowned jazz legends Tower of Power, followed on Sunday morning by workshops led by band members. The festival concluded with a final concert and the announcement of award winners.
Congratulations to all the students who represented the College with such distinction. Sincere thanks to George Katsikas and Stephen Hornby for directing the ensembles, and to Paul Van Ross and Carolyn Hernandez for accompanying and supporting the students throughout the event.

Ticket sales are now open for Seussical Kids Season 1. The Year 5 and 6 cast have been rehearsing every Friday to perfect their roles for the performance.
