Visual Arts – Term 2, 2026
I am excited to share what students will be covering in Visual Arts during Term 2. We have another colourful and creative term ahead across all year levels.
Junior students will be focusing on drawing, painting and collage.
Foundation students will continue to become confident and creative artists in the Art Room. They will explore weaving, drawing and painting.
Year 1 students have begun by creating an Earth Day poster and will be moving onto some paper weaving later on this term.
Year 2 students will complete their work on warm and cool colours and have already been using water colour paint to complete their trees in different seasons artworks. They will also link their Farm topic with Art with some soft pastel work, modelling using modelling clay and drawing.
Senior students will be focusing on drawing and using oil pastels.
Year 3 students have already completed some beautiful watercolour paintings and will go on to complete some fun artwork exploring tints. They will also explore the artwork of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo (a request at the start of the school year from one of the students!)
Year 4 will focus on creating a 3D paper city and will move onto the work of Indigenous styles and artists. Later in the term they will create clay pinch pots
Year 5 students will investigate the artwork of Kandinsky and abstract art, exploring line, shape and colour. We will also be looking at the artists Ken Done and Romero Britto and we will create some paintings and drawings inspired by those two artists. They will be designing, making and then glazing tiles embellishing them with Aboriginal symbols that will tell a short story.
The Year 3-5 students played their part in adding to the Year 6 ANZAC displays by creating poppies in their own choice of medium: oil pastels watercolour paint.
Year 6 students started the term by creating ANZAC silhouettes with a dawn sunrise backdrop to create an effective and thought-provoking display. They have already started an artist study into the life and work of Ralph McQuarrie, famous for being the main person who came up with illustrations for George Lucas’ ideas to match the Star Wars narratives.
Thank you to the families who have already sent in spare shoeboxes — they are very much appreciated. Please keep them coming throughout the year, as they are especially useful for projects such as the Year 2 Under the Sea dioramas later in the year. Empty cardboard paper towel tubes would also be extremely helpful and are always gratefully received.
