What a start to the school term we have had!
Staff enjoyed the CEN State Conference held at the Paranaple Centre in Devonport with over 520 delegates from our Christian Schools around the State. The program provided a rich variety of presenters, catered for a wide range of interest and specialist groups, and was supported by great food in a beautiful venue.
Following this, the primary teachers met together to update our scope and sequence documents. They worked tirelessly in their year level teams and it was wonderful to see their collegiality and professionalism across each year level.
Following these incredibly busy days, the students started back with Learn to Swim lessons and Christmas in July on Thursday!
Children across the school from Kinder to Year 6 are spending some time swimming and improving their water skills every day for the first two weeks of the term. It is great to see and hear about their progress, as we consider it important for them to have water confidence when living on an island state.
Thursday night, we held my favourite event of the year, Christmas in July. Mark, our extremely skilled groundsman, turned the school into a winter wonderland. Fairy lights dripped from the roof and across the grass area, fake snow fell to the ground, families arrived in costumes and wearing their best Christmas gear. Parents volunteered their time to make turkey burgers, gingerbread cookies and shortbread, which sold like hot cakes. The marketing team, teachers, learning support aides and administration staff worked together to prepare, cook and serve delights and Christmas items to excited little people and their families. We finished the night in The Ark with me reading the true meaning of the Christmas story, and with the children sitting around a Christmas tree singing with Del and Natasha, fairy lights twinkling overhead and glow sticks giving ambient light across the space.
Each of these events are intentioned in building community across our Christian Schools and staff, and with our students and families who are connected to Leighland Christian School.
We want to ensure we offer quality, Christ-centred education and do it in a way that embraces building up our school community at the same time. We are so glad that you are part of that community and look forward to engaging with you more across the term.
