As we begin Term 3, I trust that each member of our school community has enjoyed a restful and refreshing break. Whether it was time spent with loved ones, exploring the beauty of Tasmania, or simply pausing to reflect, I hope it has renewed your spirit for the term ahead.
A particular highlight towards the end of the holidays was the CEN Tasmanian State Conference, held in Devonport on 21–22 July. The theme, Light on a Hill: Faithful and Anchored in a Changing Culture, resonated deeply with all who attended. It was a joy for our staff to gather with Christian educators from across Tasmania, united in our shared mission to nurture hearts and minds in Christ.
The conference featured inspiring keynote sessions from Sam Burrows, Julia Verdouw, and a recorded message by Craig Groeschel titled “Remember, Finish, Hold.” Breakout sessions led by Karen Doyle, Laine Tuxworth, and others provided practical insights into wellbeing, pedagogy, and leadership, all firmly rooted in faith. We were also privileged to host a tour of Leighland Ulverstone for interested attendees. A particular highlight was a session presented by our very own Head of Future Learning, Mrs Desiréé Smuts, on AI in Project-Based Learning. Delivered to a packed audience, her presentation was exceptionally well received. Well done, Mrs Smuts!
We were so blessed by the Light on a Hill Conference, which reminded us of our calling to be beacons of hope and truth in our communities. As Jesus said in Matthew 5:14–16:
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” This passage beautifully captures the heart of our vocation as Christian educators and Christian staff, to shine God’s light in every classroom, corridor, and conversation.
As we move into Term 3, may we do so with renewed purpose, anchored in faith and committed to excellence. Let us encourage one another, remain steadfast in our calling, and continue to be a light on a hill for our students, families, and wider community.
