Living Our Faith Through Inquiry and Action

At GNLC, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Faith in Action go hand in hand. As students explore the world through inquiry, they are also learning to live out Christian values—showing compassion, respect, and responsibility in their daily lives.

The PYP encourages students to be caring, principled, and reflective—qualities that align beautifully with our faith. When students take action based on their learning, whether by helping others, caring for creation, or listening to stories from the past, they are putting their faith into practice.

As it says in James 2:17, “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Through meaningful learning and thoughtful action, our students are growing not only as learners but as disciples of Christ.

In Year 6, students have been exploring sustainable energy solutions and what it means to care for creation. Inspired by engaging provocations and hands on learning, they are moving from empathy to meaningful action.

“The provocation really got us thinking about the resources we use every day. We realised that some can be used again, while others can only be used once.”

“All these experiences have really made us think and talk about the problems poor energy use can cause. But more importantly, they’ve inspired us to take action. We want to make the world a better place—not just for us, but for future generations too.”

“It was a fun way to explore the idea of finite resources. We had to collect items one at a time, which became our currency for learning tools like books and pencils. The chickpeas were renewable because we got them back, but the counters were never returned. This made us understand that, like in real life, non-renewable resources don’t replenish—once they’re gone, they’re gone. But renewable resources like water, wind and the sun can be used again and again because they naturally replenish. It really made us ask: how can some resources replenish, and why can’t others?”

“We now understand that non-renewable energy sources can pollute and harm the planet. Instead, we need to make better choices and use renewable sources. Everyone can take small steps to save energy—like switching off lights, using less water, and walking or riding instead of driving. These small actions help reduce how much energy we need to use.”

- Kabir 6A

“A scientist from Swinburne Uni helped us grow our understanding of renewable energy. He taught us about different types of energy, and we even got to explore mechanical energy too.”
