Faith in Action

This Term, our students have truly embodied the spirit of faith in action, living out the words of James 2:17: “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

Their commitment to serving others has been both inspiring and impactful.

The Winter Warmers Fundraiser saw students rally together to provide essential items for those in need, demonstrating compassion and generosity. The SLC LeaderUp Challenge empowered our student leaders to grow in confidence and servant leadership, stepping up to support their peers and school community. Meanwhile, the Year 9 students began work on their Community Projects, allowing students to explore local outreach opportunities, building meaningful connections and making a tangible difference.

These initiatives reflect the heart of our school’s mission—to nurture young people who lead with faith, courage, and love. We are proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing how they continue to shine.

Western Metro Regional Secondary School Cross Country

On the 20 June, we had a group of secondary school students compete in the WMR Cross Country, which was held at Keilor Park Athletics Club. Out of the group we took, Samara Jassal of Year 7 and Jashandeep Singh of Year 10 made it through to the state finals for Cross Country with Samara finishing 4th and Jashandeep finishing 3rd and securing a medal.

I would like to congratulate everyone who participated and good luck to Samara and Jashandeep for their state cross country final on the 24 July in the Yarra Valley.

1 Step Ahead Education: Empowering Teens Through Financial Wellbeing

Year 12 students have taken part in 1 Step Ahead — a practical and empowering financial wellbeing program designed to help young people build a healthy, balanced relationship with money.

Students explored their personal values and beliefs around money, gaining insight into how their past experiences and emotions influence their financial decisions. They were encouraged to reflect on their individual habits and learn how to manage their finances in a way that supports their overall wellbeing.

The sessions covered a range of essential topics — from goal-setting, budgeting, and saving, to understanding credit, debt, and the broader financial systems that impact everyday life. Students were taught how to make informed choices, spend intentionally, and develop habits that promote long-term financial security and satisfaction.

We are proud to have offered this program to our students and to support them in gaining both the knowledge and confidence to take control of their financial future.

GATEWays Sparks Mathematical Curiosity

The GATEWays program offered both Year 6 and Year 8 students an exciting opportunity to explore advanced mathematical concepts through real-world, hands-on learning on Friday 13 June. Students were selected for the program based on their PAT results, NAPLAN results, and in-class assessments.

Year 6 students were challenged with complex and engaging tasks that deepened their understanding of the Pythagorean Theorem and Euler’s Theory, including Euler circuits and Euler paths.

Year 8 students tackled topics typically introduced in senior levels. In the first session, they explored Matrices, a concept usually taught in VCE Mathematics. The second session focused on coordinate geometry, where students applied linear and quadratic equations to problem-solving scenarios.

Both year levels embraced the challenge, developing stronger analytical skills and a greater appreciation for mathematics as a powerful tool for understanding the world.
