Message From the Assistant Principal: Head of Junior School

Holy Communion and Confirmation

Last Sunday, a number of our Junior School students received the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation at Saint Ignatius Church. It was a reverent and meaningful celebration for all involved, marking the result of their faith journey and preparation throughout the term.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs Isabelle Roberts, who has led and guided the sacramental program with such dedication. This occasion also marked a significant milestone, as it was Isabelle’s final sacramental celebration before her well-deserved retirement from this role at the end of the term. We are sincerely grateful for her years of service and the spiritual care she has provided to so many students and families.

IPSHA Poetry Competition Success

Loreto College proudly participated in the recent IPSHA Poetry Competition, an event that encourages students to develop a love of poetry, strengthen memorisation and elocution skills, and build confidence in public speaking.

Participants were required to present two poems – a set poem and one of their own choosing. Grace (Year 4), Tiana (Year 5), and Delilah (Year 6) dedicated their time to rehearsing and refining their performances, demonstrating great commitment and enthusiasm.

A special mention goes to Delilah, who achieved an impressive third place in her division. Congratulations to all three students for their expressive and polished presentations. Well done to our talented performers for representing Loreto with pride and passion!

Junior School Botany Club: From Basil to Pizza!

This term, the Junior School Botany Club has been busy getting their hands dirty and learning about plant life cycles in a deliciously practical way! Students began by propagating basil from cuttings, carefully nurturing the young plants until they were ready for our garden beds.

With regular care and attention, the basil grew well in the garden. Once the plants were fully grown, it was time to harvest. The fresh basil leaves were then used as the star ingredient in homemade margherita pizzas, giving students the chance to taste the fruits of their labour.

It’s been a fantastic journey from planting to plate, and a wonderful way for students to see how their hard work in the garden can lead to healthy, delicious food. Well done to all our budding botanists!

Reception Inquiry Learning: Exploring the Significance of Places

What a fantastic year we have enjoyed in Reception so far! Together, we have shared a joyful and rewarding journey of learning and growing, marked by many memorable moments along the way. From confidently hosting our Mother’s Day Liturgy, warmly welcoming our new mid-year Reception peers, to proudly presenting our learning at the Junior School Assembly, the girls have embraced each opportunity with courage, enthusiasm, and a growing sense of leadership in our Loreto College community.

Most recently, our Inquiry learning has led us into the fascinating concept of places. We’ve been investigating what makes a place special, and we now understand that a place is a space where you can live, work or play. We began by exploring familiar places and were introduced to the story Rosie’s Walk, which helped us identify the different features of places. This story sparked our curiosity and inspired us to create detailed story maps using our knowledge of positional language to label.

From there, our focus deepened as we asked, “Why are some places significant to people?” Naturally, Loreto College became our central focus. The students began creating beautiful books to showcase the notable features of our school and reflect on why these places are meaningful to us.

A highlight of our learning was a very special visit with Ms McCullah in the Acacias building. We were in awe as we stepped into this beautiful and historic space, where we were warmly welcomed to share a story together. Ms McCullah then invited us on a guided tour of the Acacias, helping us discover why this building has been significant in the past, continues to play an important role today, and will remain meaningful into the future. The students all eagerly agreed that the Acacia's is a place “where important decisions are made!”

We are so grateful to Ms McCullah for generously sharing her time, stories and wisdom with us. Her involvement has helped shape our Inquiry and deepen our understanding of place and belonging. What a wonderful celebration of learning it has been!
