F-2
This fortnight, the Foundation students caused a chemical reaction in the form of a lava lamp. They used food dye, alka-setzers, oil and vinegar. The blobs were formed by causing a carbon dioxide reaction. The 1/2s got very messy and made cloud dough! They used apple scented conditioner and cornflour to mix the perfect consistency to form a dough. It could not be too slimy or too crumbling. It involved an immense amount of kneading.
Year 3-6
This fortnight, the 3-6 students have created an experiment called 'elephant toothpaste'. This experiment uses a chemical called hydrogen peroxide to form a thermic chemical reaction. The 5/6s are continuing to develop their volcano projects. They have digitally planned the plans and now they have been engineering the volcanoes using playdough, cardboard, bottles, paper machete and tape. The 5/6 students will test their experiments in the coming weeks by using a chemical reaction. We are hoping to show case these at the next school showcase!
School Values Certificates/Whole School Assembly
This week, these two students will receive a STEM award for showing all school values;
Arham P from Prep B
Abdullah B from 3/4C
FOUNDATION:
In our Foundation sessions, we have been using small pieces of paper to create collages. The students have been working on collaging inside of the lines and tearing and pasting the paper close together. Students have also continued their practice of mixing primary colours to create secondary colours.
GRADE 1/2:
In grade 1/2, the students have been continuing to create a paper flower, made out of a paper plate and sheets of paper. Some students have completed their work already and have had some free time for drawing.
GRADE 3/4:
In grade 3/4, students have been working on creating their own flowers by drawing and then painting them with watercolour paints. They are sticking their flowers into a vase template.
GRADE 5/6:
In grade 5/6 students have started working on one point perspective drawings. One-point perspective is a drawing method that shows how things appear to get smaller as they get further away, converging towards a vanishing point on the horizon line.
Physical Education [PE] is a tremendous way to get students active while also teaching them important life skills, improve their physical health, and develop a love for being active.
During PE, students will:
- focus on fundamental skills [e.g. running, catching, balance]
- play games to reinforce the skills
- foster social skills
- celebrate their efforts, building confidence and a love for sport.
Each session will have a:
- warm-up activity to get their muscles ready
- skill development activity
- fun game - teamwork and cooperation.
We have started PE this term by playing students’ favourite games, teaching the skill of running, and for the 5/6s playing Interschool Sports.
FOUNDATION:
Our Foundation students have been singing along to the Spanish version of Old MacDonald Had a Farm! 🎶🐄 They’ve been learning the animal names in Spanish while crafting adorable popsicle stick puppets to bring the song to life. These hands-on activities have helped reinforce vocabulary and pronunciation in a fun and memorable way.¡Muy bien, chicos!
GRADE 1/2:
In Grade 1/2, students have been exploring native South American animals and learning their names in Spanish. 🐒🦜 Each animal has been creatively added to a beautifully decorated Spanish alphabet chart, helping students connect letters with new vocabulary. This project has sparked curiosity about wildlife and culture across the continent.¡Excelente trabajo!
GRADE 3/4:
Our Year 3/4 students have done an amazing job creating their first 3D models of Colombian regions! 🗺️Through this project, they explored cultural elements such as traditional clothing, music, dances, and food, and compared them with their own cultures and life in Australia. It’s been a fantastic way to blend geography, culture, and language learning. ¡Qué impresionante!
Grade 5/6
Grade 5/6 students have been mastering classroom commands in Spanish like “Levántate”, “Siéntate”, “Camina”, and “Salta”! 🗣️🪑 They’ve also begun working on an exciting new project where they’ll teach their peers about traditional Latin American children’s games. This unit is helping students build confidence in using Spanish in real-life contexts. Keep up the good work!
School Values Certificates/Whole School Assembly
This week, this student will receive a SPANISH award for showing our school values; Misha J—PREP B
For demonstrating outstanding teamwork and companionship by helping classmates solve their Spanish puzzles and patiently explaining how to work through challenges. Keep shining and supporting those around you! ⭐
