Dear Families
Welcome to week 8 of term 2. We are heading towards the end of another busy and exciting term. We are proud of all the effort and enthusiasm students have shown in their learning throughout the term
In reading, we have been focusing on non-fiction texts and their features. Students explored and read various non-fiction texts based on the topic of past and present. Students learnt about many non-fiction text features such as table of contents, photographs, heading, glossary, index etc. Students explored these features while reading the text and they were able to understand the use and purpose of using these text features.
In writing, students worked on creating information reports. Students were able to understand the structure of writing an information report. They have been creating their reports on various topics such as transportation, School days etc by comparing them with the past
Systematic Synthetic Phonics
To continue building our phonics knowledge through the Little Learners Love Literacy program, students have been learning new digraph and trigraph sounds and learning to apply them to read and write words with growing confidence.
In maths, students continued to explore different addition and subtraction strategies to add and subtract numbers within 20. Students learnt bridging through 10, doubles and near double strategies to add and subtract numbers. Students were also able to solve addition problems using different strategies and used manipulatives to show and explain their thinking and strategies
In SEL, Students have been working on their Resilience Project and learnt about different problem-solving strategies. They have also been learning and demonstrating different ways of showing respect in their learning environment.
In Inquiry, students continued to learn about the past and present life by comparing different objects, games, means of transport and communication with the past. Students had the opportunities to play some games which were popular in the past such as hopscotch, marbles, etc. Students also explored about writing letters as a way of communication in the past.
