đ± LITERACYÂ â Reading
This week, students will continue to build their skills in reading, interpreting, and retelling short texts. These activities provide valuable opportunities for students to demonstrate their comprehension and analytical thinking, as well as make inferences supported by evidence from the text. An exciting highlight will also be exploring each otherâs published picture storybooksâgiving students the chance to read with purpose, ask questions, and celebrate their peers' creativity.Â
Â
What you can do at home
Encourage your child to talk about the texts they are reading and how they are using clues in the text and illustrations to make inferences. You might like to ask questions such as, âWhat makes you think that?â or âHow do you know?â to support their thinking.Â
Â
đ± Writing
This week, students will be putting the finishing touches on their picture storybooks!Â
Any additional writing sessions this week will be used to revisit Sentence Level Writing through our creative spinner activity. In each session, students spin for a topic, an emotion, and a writing focusâsuch as vivid vocabulary, dialogue, or figurative language. This familiar and engaging routine continues to inspire creative thinking while allowing students to practise targeted writing techniques. These short, focused bursts of writing are building confidence, encouraging experimentation, and helping students refine their unique writerâs voice.
Â
What you can do at home
Encourage your child to talk about the story they created and the cultural themes they explored. Ask them what inspired their ideas, and what they found challenging or rewarding about the process. You might also like to try a mini spinner-style prompt at homeâchoose a topic, an emotion, and a writing focus together, then set a short timer for some fun, creative writing! These conversations and activities help reinforce classroom learning and build your childâs confidence as a writer.
Â
đ± NUMERACYÂ
This week in Mathematics, students will continue to explore the concepts of location and transformation. They will use their understanding to locate and describe positions on a grid, give and follow directions, and understand how shapes move through flips, slides, and turns. By using mathematical terms like reflection, translation, and rotation, theyâre building both vocabulary and understanding. These activities are not only developing spatial thinking but also showing students how geometry applies to real-life contexts.
Â
What you can do at home
Support your childâs learning by encouraging them to complete their assigned activities on Mathletics. These tasks are a great way to practise what theyâve learned in class. Talking through the questions together or asking your child to explain their thinking can help build their understanding and confidence in working with chance and probability.
Â
đ±Â CBLÂ
Thereâs a real buzz of excitement as students prepare to complete their CBL challenge â âto share a story that captures the experienes of cultural diversity and human connectionâ. It will be wonderful to discover the different themes of cultural diversity their peers have chosen to represent, and the reasons behind those choices. Grade 5 and 6 students will come together in classrooms to read, discuss, and ask thoughtful questions about each otherâs ideas, challenges, and creative processes. To conclude, theyâll complete a reflection to thoughtfully wrap up the experience.Â
 Â
đ±Â HOMEWORK
Students are expected to complete homework on a weekly basis. This consists of
- 100 minutes total of reading a novel/factual text of their choice
- 3 (minimum) Mathletics tasks, which the teachers will assign
- 2 Nessy activities
Â
This homework is to be recorded in the Calendar App on student iPads. Your child's teacher will check this homework on Friday.
Â
 đż REMINDERS
đ±Â Please assist your child in ensuring that their iPad comes to school every day, fully charged. This is especially important this week as students are completing a range of online assessments.Â
đ±Â HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Enjoy your break and we will see you back here, ready for Term 3!

DROP OFF AND PICK UP IN LANTANA
Please be mindful of the road signs on Lantana Road. It is a NO PARKING zone in front of the school during school start and finish times. To ensure a smooth and safe process, we have a designated pick-up system at the end of the day, where a teacher monitors and guides students into cars lined up in the queue. This system works efficiently when there are no parked cars breaching the signage during these times. Thank you for your cooperation.
