Level 3 & 4

Week 10, Term 2

🌱 KINDER WALKING VISIT - TUESDAY 1st July

The children are excitedly preparing for their walking visit to the Birch Memorial Preschool. They are currently in the process of choosing an appropriate picture storybook, which they will practice to read with one of the kinder kids. They will also bring a colouring sheet to complete in partnership with the same child.

🌱 PG PARENT PERMISSION - STORMBOY VIDEO

We are looking forward to viewing the Storm Boy video, as a celebration, having studied the story as a mentor text throughout the term. Many thanks to the majority of families who have provided permission to view this PG rated film. For those who have not yet given permission, can you please do so via the prompt on Sentral. If you would prefer for your child not to view this film, please let us know and we will arrange for them to work in another space during the viewing.

🌱 LITERACY

In Reading, we will complete some final reflection activities related to our mentor text Storm Boy. Students will also be supported to select an appropriate picture story book in preparation for our kinder visit. They will practice reading aloud with their fluency pair, with a focus on their pace and varying the tone of their voice for added expression.

For Writing, students will continue to plan, draft, edit and publish their persuasive writing piece. Students have been supported to develop and express a strong opinion, either for or against duck hunting. They have been taught several persuasive strategies, including using rhetorical questions, facts and quotes from reputable sources, to support the validity of their opinion.

At home, you can support your child by listening to them read their picture story book aloud and encouraging expressive reading, and by discussing their persuasive writing topic with them to help strengthen their arguments and ideas.

🌱 NUMERACY

In Numeracy, students will begin exploring money and the Australian Currency System. They will engage in activities that involve identifying notes and coins, calculating change, and applying their knowledge to real-world scenarios. This learning will help prepare them for our excursion to the Queen Victoria Market early next term.

At home, you can support your child by involving them in real-life money activities, such as counting change or comparing prices while shopping.

🌱 CBL

This week in Challenge Based Learning (CBL), students will work collaboratively in groups to plan, create, and present their own news report-style presentations. They will learn how to include key features of a news report, such as using props, setting up a recording space, and using speaking prompts to support their delivery. The content of their reports will reflect their understanding of the five key eras of migration studied earlier this term. This hands-on project encourages creativity, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of Australia’s migration history.

At home, you can support your child by asking them to explain the eras of migration their group is focusing on and helping them rehearse their news report script with clear and confident speaking.

Wellbeing

This week, students will review key wellbeing strategies taught throughout the term. Due to the shortened and modified week, no new wellbeing content, in either Respectful Relationships or Cyber Safety, will be introduced.

🌿 REMINDERS

🌱 Please assist your child in ensuring that their iPad comes to school every day, fully charged.

🌱 Check that your child has headphones which work and connect to their iPad.

🌱 We are currently missing a number of books from the Library. Can you please help your child to check if any overdue Library books are hiding with them at home.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP IN LANTANA

Please be mindful of the road signs on Lantana Road. It is a NO PARKING zone in front of the school, during school start and finish times. To ensure a smooth and safe process, we have a designated pick-up system at the end of the day where a teacher monitors and guides students into cars lined up in the queue. This system works efficiently when there are no parked cars breaching the signage during these times. Thank you for your cooperation.
