Excursion to Castlemaine
In Week 8, we set off on an exciting adventure to the beautiful Castlemaine Botanical Gardens. Our day began with a fun train ride, followed by nature-filled activities that had everyone exploring, discovering, and getting their hands dirty (in the best way!).
A big highlight of the day was the delicious sausage sizzle, lovingly cooked up by our very own Mr Knight and Mr Chalkley—thank you, chefs! After a full day of fresh air and fun, we hopped back on the train and made our way home with happy hearts and tired feet.

Hands-On with Capacity
In Grade 2, we have started learning about measuring mass and capacity. We have started by learning about measuring mass using informal units to balance scales. We are really enjoying the hands on part of this maths topic and working in small groups.
Our curious Grade 1 learners explored the concept of capacity by comparing a variety of everyday containers. Using water and sand, students had fun predicting, filling, and measuring to discover which containers held more or less. There was plenty of excitement (and a little mess!) as they worked together, shared their thinking, and learned through hands-on experience. It was a wonderful way to bring maths to life!
Origami
As a follow-up to reading The Story About Ping, our Grade 1 students enjoyed making their own origami boats. This creative craft activity sparked wonderful discussions about Ping’s river adventures on the Yangtze River in China.
We were also lucky enough to have a special visit from some baby chicks, thanks to Megan Beagley. The students were able to ask questions about the chicks, how to care for them, and how they grow.
3/4 News
Class Presentations are a wonderful way for students to practise planning, rehearsing and delivering content to an audience. This term, the quality of 'Show and Tell' has been incredible with some students creating posters or PowerPoint documents to present their research and thoughts on given topics.
Last week, the 3/4 Unit were very fortunate to receive basic first aid training from the lovely people at St John Ambulance. The session covered topics such as, how to call 000 and the DRSABCD action plan.
5/6 News
The 5/6 Unit have continued our Inquiry unit into immigration which has tied in beautifully with our newest class novel, Waves. The students are really enjoying finding out all the different stories and reasons for immigration to Australia.
Our students have also really enjoyed their maths unit on Transformation and Location, learning how to use coordinates to create some fantastic pictures of animals.
We had a number of Grade 6 students who represented our school in soccer. The boys had a great day, winning half their games, but it was the girls, who walked away from the day undefeated and with the trophy. A big thanks to Mr Feeney who coached the girls and a special thanks to Noah Furlong and Andrew Lawlor who coached the boys. Your support is greatly appreciated.
A big highlight for our Grade 5 and 6 girls has been taking part in the "Courage and Crowns" program. The girls spent an hour and a half with Megan Simpson during the day discussing "tricky things" about being at this age as well as the importance of kindness, not only to other but also to ourselves. In the evening, the girls then came back with a special female adult and spent another hour and a half touching on these subjects and other topics that are important to young woman. It was extremely well received and a fantastic opportunity for these young woman to be involved in. We highly recommend having a look at Megan's website. Thank you to Mr Boulton for organising.
