Lyambay Dancers

It has been a busy term for our Lyambay Dancers leading into a busy holidays. With our dancers putting on deadly performances at Ben Venue and at Armidale TAFE’s NAIDOC celebration. You can catch them in the school holidays performing at Pathfinders Our Mob, Our Game NAIDOC Community Fun Day.

The dancers have also been working hard running workshops and rehearsals for their performance with primary school students at ACOS which is happening next term. Our dancers have worked together to choreograph their own dance and are now teaching it to our primary school students.

In our classes

Around our school, our year 7’s have been looking at a hero’s journey and what is a hero.

Yr 8 have been learning about the different types of rocks and where they can be found in science. While our year 9’s have been exploring speculative fiction in English and wondering ‘What if?’. For the end of this term in science our year 10 students have been working towards completing a Student Research Project (SRP) where they get to design and run their own experiment. Year 11 students are working towards their half yearly exams and our year 12 students who are almost finished are working extremely hard, especially our students that are doing major works which are going to be finished very soon. Our year 8 and 9 students have also been doing amazing work in all of their tech classes.

Oorala Experience Program

This term 20 of our year 10, 11 and 12 students got the opportunity to participate in the Oorala Experience Program. The program ran for a week where our students got to go out to the University of New England and get a taste of life at uni. Our students got to do a range of activities from participating in a moot court, learning to give CPR, handling historical artifacts, going to the cinemas and being given the chance to stay overnight at Austin Page College if they wanted. The students had a fantastic time getting to know students from other schools and getting to know the Oorala team who gave them everything they needed to know about all the different pathways into university and how they can help out. Our kids had a great time and it was a fantastic experience for them. So thank you to everyone involved in organising the program and our students for giving everything a go.

School Holidays

We hope everyone has a safe and happy school holidays and we can't wait to see you all back next term on Tuesday 22nd July!
